Influence of Zn(NO3)2 concentration during the ZnO electrodeposition on TiO2 nanosponges used in photoelectrochemical applications

P. J. Navarro-Gazquez et al.

Summary: TiO2/ZnO hybrid nanostructures were successfully fabricated by electrochemical anodization of titanium and subsequent ZnO electrodeposition. It was found that the morphology and properties of the nanostructures were strongly influenced by the concentration of Zn(NO3)2. Increasing the Zn(NO3)2 concentration led to an increase in the amount and crystalline size of ZnO, as well as a decrease in the band gap. The TiO2/ZnO hybrid nanostructures electrodeposited with 30 mM Zn(NO3)(2) exhibited the best photoelectrochemical activity and charge transfer performance.

Marie Le Pivert et al.

Summary: In this study, iron oxide cocatalysts were successfully deposited on the surface of ZnO nanostructures to extend the photocatalyst's absorption spectral range and enhance photocatalytic efficiency. An optimal deposition concentration of 0.06% iron led to an 11% improvement in Methyl Orange photocatalytic degradation under natural sunlight. Photocorrosion damages were observed under a powerful UV light source, with different effects on ZnO regions covered by iron oxide and uncovered regions.
