Effects of bile acids supplementation in soybean meal-based diet on growth, cholesterol status, digestibility and moulting-related gene expression in white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei

Yu-Hung Lin et al.

Summary: The effects of bile acids supplementation in a soybean meal-based diet on growth, cholesterol concentrations, nutrient digestibility, and moulting-related gene expression in white shrimp were evaluated. The results showed that bile acids supplementation improved moulting-related gene expressions but had no effect on other physiological parameters.

Effects of bile acids on the growth performance, lipid metabolism, non-specific immunity and intestinal microbiota of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei)

Chen Su et al.

Summary: The study showed that dietary bile acids at the level of 0.2 g kg(-1) had the most positive effects on the growth performance, lipid metabolism, immune response, and intestinal microbiota of Pacific white shrimp. Higher levels of bile acids could lead to oxidative damage and significantly alter the diversity and richness of intestinal microbiota. Functional genes associated with metabolism and bile acids biotransformation were strongly activated in certain groups.
