Isolation and immortalization of macrophages derived from fetal porcine small intestine and their susceptibility to porcine viral pathogen infections

Takato Takenouchi et al.

Summary: Macrophages are a crucial part of the immune system and are used in vitro cultures for studying their functions and interactions with pathogens. This study focuses on porcine macrophages and their potential use in identifying and characterizing viral pathogens in pigs. The study successfully isolates and immortalizes porcine intestinal macrophages (PIM) and demonstrates their susceptibility to infection by African swine fever virus and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus. The developed IPIM cell line can be a valuable tool for studying the relationship between porcine pathogens and immune cells.

Pathological investigation and viral antigen distribution of emerging African swine fever in Vietnam

Uda Zahli Izzati et al.

Summary: A study analyzed histopathological samples from ASF-infected farms in Vietnam during the outbreak, revealing characteristic lesions of ASF in the acute to subacute clinical forms and distribution of ASFV viral antigen. Molecular analysis showed that ASFV strains from the outbreaks belonged to genotype II.
