Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio as a prognostic biomarker in puppies with acute diarrhea

Ceren Dinler Ay

Summary: Documenting NLR values in puppies with acute diarrhea can help evaluate disease severity and prognosis. The positive correlation between CADSI score and NLR, as well as the lack of significant relationship between WBC count and disease severity, suggest that NLR may serve as a useful marker for disease severity in puppies with AD.

Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio: An Emerging Marker of the Relationships between the Immune System and Diseases

Agata Buonacera et al.

Summary: Evaluation of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) as a marker of diseases has become a compelling field of research in the past decade. Although an exact cut-off value has not been determined, NLR is recognized as a marker of immune system homeostasis and is correlated with mortality in general population and specific disease subsets. Additionally, NLR has been considered in decision-making processes for COVID-19 pneumonia patients.

The Cholinergic Drug Galantamine Alleviates Oxidative Stress Alongside Anti-inflammatory and Cardio-Metabolic Effects in Subjects With the Metabolic Syndrome in a Randomized Trial

Carine Teles Sangaleti et al.

Summary: The study found that low-dose galantamine treatment has positive effects on oxidative stress, inflammation, and cardiac metabolic parameters in MetS patients, alleviating inflammatory status and insulin resistance, and modulating neural autonomic regulation.

Increased survival in puppies affected by Canine Parvovirus type II using an immunomodulator as a therapeutic aid

Adriana Munoz et al.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the effects of an immunomodulator as a therapeutic auxiliary in puppies with sepsis and SIRS induced by CPE. It was found that administering a human immunomodulator to puppies with CPE under six months of age reduced the severity of clinical signs, increased survival, and modulated inflammatory cell parameters. More studies are needed to fully utilize these clinical findings, potentially mediated by the interaction of human Ub increment GG with canine CXCR4.

The Cholinergic Drug Pyridostigmine Alleviates Inflammation During LPS-Induced Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Pamela Nithzi Bricher Choque et al.

Summary: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a severe complication with high mortality and lacks effective pharmacological treatments. Recent research highlights the significant role of neural cholinergic signaling in inflammation regulation. Treatment with the clinically approved drug pyridostigmine shows promising results in ameliorating inflammatory responses in mice with endotoxin-induced ARDS, suggesting potential therapeutic strategies for this condition.

Norepinephrine in Septic Shock: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Muhammad Azfar Ruslan et al.

Summary: The use of norepinephrine in patients with septic shock did not significantly impact the achievement of target mean arterial pressure, 28-day mortality, or incidence of arrhythmia when compared to other vasopressors. However, norepinephrine showed superiority in reducing arrhythmia occurrence, but no significant differences were found in secondary outcomes such as myocardial infarction, vasopressor-free day, and all-cause 90-day mortality when compared to other vasopressors.

Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, past, present and future perspectives

R. Zahorec

Summary: NLR, a novel hematological parameter, is widely used as a marker of immune response in various medical disciplines. Its values are influenced by age, diet, medication, and various chronic diseases, indicating different pathological states. NLR has high sensitivity in detecting cancer, infection, inflammation, and stress.
