An Interpretable Chest CT Deep Learning Algorithm for Quantification of COVID-19 Lung Disease and Prediction of Inpatient Morbidity and Mortality

Jordan H. Chamberlin et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive ability of a deep convolutional neural network (dCNN) in determining inpatient outcomes for COVID-19 pneumonia. The tested dCNN showed high accuracy in predicting patient outcomes, performing at a similar level as experts. These findings provide added value for clinicians in terms of prognosis assessment and disease severity determination.

Scaled PCA: A New Approach to Dimension Reduction

Dashan Huang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel supervised learning technique called sPCA for forecasting, which improves upon traditional PCA by assigning more weight to predictors with stronger forecasting power. Research shows that under certain data conditions, sPCA outperforms PCA in forecasting, and even when these conditions break down, sPCA still has a large chance to outperform PCA. A real data example on macroeconomic forecasting demonstrates that sPCA generally performs better.

Differentiating Crohn's disease from intestinal tuberculosis using a fusion correlation neural network

Yinghao Chen et al.

Summary: Crohn's disease and intestinal tuberculosis have similarities in clinical manifestations and imaging features, making differentiation challenging. A fusion correlation neural network is proposed to diagnose these conditions, with an average accuracy exceeding 91%.

Improved COVID-19 detection with chest x-ray images using deep learning

Vedika Gupta et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop a computer-aided design system that uses chest X-ray images and pre-trained deep neural networks to classify the images into COVID-19, viral pneumonia, and healthy categories. The results show that AlexNet achieves high accuracy and performance in terms of precision, recall, and F1 score.

Correlates of Non-suicidal Self-Injury in Adolescent Psychiatric Patients in China

Ji-Jie Zhang et al.

Summary: This study explores the influencing factors and clinical characteristics of NSSI in adolescent psychiatric patients in China, finding that negative life events (such as childhood trauma and peer bullying) and severe depressive symptoms are associated with NSSI. Assessing these factors can provide valuable information for intervention and treatment.

Depression as a mediator between frequent nightmares and nonsuicidal self-injury among adolescents: a 3-wave longitudinal model

Zhen-Zhen Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that frequent nightmares in adolescents have a mediating effect on self-harm behavior through depression, and gender does not significantly moderate the relationship between nightmares and self-harm behavior. Therefore, assessing and treating frequent nightmares and depression in adolescents is important for preventing self-harm.

Impact of parental divorce versus separation due to migration on mental health and self-injury of Chinese children: a cross sectional survey

Feng Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that children living with divorced parents exhibited higher levels of internalizing and externalizing problems, suicidal ideation, and non-suicidal self-injury behaviors compared to children with migrating parents, but these differences disappeared when considering parent-adolescent communication and psychological resilience.

A Rhesus Monkey Model of Non-suicidal Self-Injury

Melinda A. Novak et al.

Summary: The study compares and contrasts self-injurious behavior in rhesus monkeys with non-suicidal self-injury in humans, finding many similarities in form, prevalence rates, risk factors, behavioral correlates, functions, and treatment modalities. Researching self-injurious behavior in rhesus monkeys may help us better understand potential risk factors for human self-injury and develop medication for severe cases that do not respond to traditional psychotherapeutic methods.
