Prevalence of and risk factors associated with depression among nursing students acting on the frontline of COVID-19 pandemic: A cross-sectional study

Prevalence of Depression and Anxiety in Nurses during the First Eleven Months of the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to establish and estimate the combined incidence of depression and anxiety among nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis of 23 studies involving 44,165 nurses from nine countries showed that over one-fifth of nurses suffer from depression and almost one-third experience anxiety symptoms during the COVID-19 epidemic. These findings highlight the importance of providing comprehensive psychological support strategies for nurses working in pandemic conditions.

Depression and anxiety among nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic in Tohoku region, Japan: A cross-sectional survey

Summary: This study investigated the levels of anxiety and depression among Japanese nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic and found that both groups of students had remarkably high levels of anxiety and depressive symptoms. After adjusting for perceived vulnerability, there were no significant differences in anxiety and depression between nursing students and other students.

Prevalence of mental health problems and sleep disturbances in nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: This study aimed to identify the prevalence of mental health problems and sleep disturbances among nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings showed that depression had the highest prevalence among nursing students, followed by fear, anxiety, stress, and sleep disturbances. Strategies to manage nursing students' teaching and learning, including modified distance learning and mental health services, are recommended to improve their well-being and future career readiness.

Motivated by concerns for family and encouragement from family/teachers, most medical students expressed willingness to work as medical assistants again when needed by their country, with this experience not affecting their career choices.

Self-Reported Symptoms of Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Among Healthcare Workers in Ethiopia During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Cross-Sectional Study

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic in central Ethiopia, healthcare workers showed a high prevalence of symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress, with female participants, healthcare workers in the Oromiya Special Zone, medical laboratory professionals, and those working in COVID-19 treatment isolation centers being more likely to experience these issues. It is suggested that the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health should introduce psychological interventions to cater to the specific needs of impacted healthcare workers.

Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Among Healthcare Workers During the COVID-19 Outbreak and Relationships With Expressive Flexibility and Context Sensitivity

Summary: This study investigated depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms among healthcare workers, focusing on the role of expressive flexibility and context sensitivity as key components of resilience. The results showed that the ability to enhance emotional expression was inversely associated with depression and stress, while the ability to suppress emotional expression was inversely associated with depression, anxiety, and stress. The study suggests that enhancement and suppression abilities, as well as sensitivity to stressor context cues, play a significant role in predicting mental health outcomes among healthcare workers.
