The mixed phylogenetic origin of northern pike (Esox lucius Linnaeus 1758) populations in the Middle Danubian drainage

Peter Takacs et al.

Summary: This study investigated the phenotypic and phylogenetic diversity of Middle Danubian northern pike populations. The results showed that the populations exhibited high levels of phenotypic variance and were influenced by three major lineages. Human introduction may have played a role in the spread of non-native lineages within the watershed.

Origins, phylogenetic relationships and host-parasite interactions of Troglotrematoidea since the cretaceous

Konstantin S. Vainutis et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the origins and historical relationships of the trematodes from the families Troglotrematidae and Paragonimidae. Through phylogenetic analysis and molecular-clock methods, we found that these two families belong to the superfamily Troglotrematoidea, with the family Troglotrematidae being more closely related to the common troglotrematoid ancestor. The divergence of the common ancestor of the superfamily Troglotrematoidea likely occurred during the Mesozoic Era and originated in the Asiatic region. The radiation time of the common troglotrematoid ancestor and the formation of the families Troglotrematidae and Paragonimidae coincide with the time of settling in East Asia by many mammaliaforms species.

Systematics of Crepidostomum species from the Russian Far East and northern Japan, with description of a new species and validation of the genus Stephanophiala

Konstantin S. Vainutis et al.

Summary: This article discusses the complex taxonomic status of certain species from the genus Crepidostomum found in freshwater fish from Primorsky region, Sakhalin, and Hokkaido Islands. New species Crepidostomum achmerovi sp. nov. was described, and the Crepidostomum metoecus species complex was reconsidered as an independent genus Crepidostomum sensu stricto based on molecular-genetic investigations.
