Three new species of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi of the genus Diversispora from maritime dunes of Poland

Janusz Blaszkowski et al.

Summary: Three new species of Diversispora, genus of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, were described based on their morphology and molecular phylogeny. These species were associated with plants colonizing maritime sand dunes of the Baltic Sea in Poland and formed mycorrhiza in single-species cultures.

The Macrophyte Indices for Rivers to Assess the Ecological Conditions in the Klina River in the Republic of Kosovo

Pajtim Bytyci et al.

Summary: Macrophytes play an important role in aquatic ecosystems and can be used as indicators to assess the ecological status of water bodies. A survey conducted in the Klina River in Kosovo found that the ecological status varied along the river, with upstream areas showing better conditions and downstream areas being heavily affected by organic pollution. Water temperature, turbidity, and ion concentrations showed correlations with plant density and macrophyte indices.

Clonal spore populations in sporocarps of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi

Masahide Yamato et al.

Summary: This study explored the genetics of sporocarpic spores of two arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi and found that the sporocarps were composed of clonal spores. These sporocarps with clonal spores may have different functions than sexual reproduction.

Outline of Fungi and fungus-like taxa-2021

N. N. Wijayawardene et al.

Summary: This paper presents an updated classification of the Kingdom Fungi, including fungus-like taxa and fossil fungi. It provides detailed notes for newly introduced taxa and changes made since the previous outline. The paper discusses the latest taxonomic changes in Basidiomycota and broadly explores the classification of Mycosphaerellales. It also discusses problematic genera in Glomeromycota based on phylogenetic analysis.

Biological rhythms of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi under influence of seasonality in semiarid region in Brazil

Cassio Ricardo Goncalves Da Costa et al.

Summary: Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi are widespread in nature but their distribution in soil is uneven, influenced by environmental factors. This study aimed to determine species richness and identification of native AMFs in different soils representing Paraiba state, with Ultisol and Oxisol showing higher diversity. Seasonality and precipitation were found to significantly influence the spore number and AMF richness.

Southern coastal subtropical shallow lakes skin temperature driven by climatic and non-climatic factors

Itzayana Gonzalez Avila et al.

Summary: Subtropical coastal shallow lakes are sensitive ecosystems, with lake-skin-water temperature serving as an important proxy for lake temperature. This study analyzed LSWT data for 20 SCSL in South America, finding that LSWT dynamics are influenced by both climatic (such as air temperature and wind direction) and non-climatic factors (including latitude and lake width). The research identified a warming trend in LSWT, but also revealed potential fluctuations in temperature over shorter periods.

Ecological restoration methods influence the structure of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal communities in degraded drylands

Adler Santana Medeiros et al.

Summary: Successful dry forest restoration may depend on the re-establishment of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (AM) fungal communities, which directly affect plant growth by enhancing nutrient uptake. Different ecological restoration techniques, such as litter transposition and agroforestry, have shown promise in influencing AM fungal communities. Factors such as irrigation can lead to soil salinization, affecting the abundance of viable glomerospores and community structure.

Diverse and abundant arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in ecological floating beds used to treat eutrophic water

Zhouying Xu et al.

Summary: Aquatic plants in EFBs host diverse (229 OTUs) and abundant (348,799 sequences) AMF communities. Different plant species host different taxa of AMF. Cyperaceae, originally considered non-mycorrhizal, may actually belong to a variable mycorrhizal plant family. The composition of AMF communities in EFBs is closely linked to nutrient concentrations (nitrogen and phosphorus).

New taxa in Glomeromycota: Polonosporaceae fam. nov., Polonospora gen. nov., and P. polonica comb. nov.

Janusz Blaszkowski et al.

Summary: The species originally described as Acaulospora polonica actually represents a new genus and a new family of the ancient order Archaeosporales, introduced as Polonospora and Polonosporaceae respectively, within the phylum Glomeromycota. Several morphologically undescribed taxa at the ranks of genus and species are still present within Polonosporaceae with P. polonica comb. nov., having a worldwide distribution.

Ignored diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in co-occurring mycotrophic and non-mycotrophic plants

Yutao Wang et al.

Summary: The study compared AMF species composition and diversity in roots of mycotrophic and putative non-mycotrophic herbs in wetlands, revealing unique AMF species in non-mycotrophic plants. The results suggest that non-mycotrophic plants may harbor a potential source of AMF diversity previously ignored, with implications for understanding AMF distribution patterns.
