Real-World Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Treatment Patterns and Clinical Outcomes in The Netherlands

S. A. van Laar et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed the electronic health records of mRCC patients from two large hospitals in the Netherlands using text mining software. The study found that pazopanib and sunitinib were the most common first-line treatment options in real-world clinical practice, and patients' overall survival and progression-free survival were likely better than in clinical trials, possibly due to extensive follow-up treatments.

Multimodality imaging of renal lymphoma and its mimics

Trinh Nguyen et al.

Summary: Lymphomatous involvement of the genitourinary system, particularly the kidneys, is often underestimated and underreported on conventional diagnostic imaging. This is due to its variable imaging appearance and overlapping features with other conditions. By presenting a spectrum of typical and atypical appearances of renal lymphoma using multimodality imaging, this article highlights the importance of imaging in the detection, diagnosis, staging, and surveillance of patients with lymphoma.

Imaging Characterization of Renal Masses

Carlos Nicolau et al.

Summary: The detection and management of renal masses in Radiology Department depend on whether the lesion is cystic or solid, with different diagnostic approaches for each. Radiologists play a crucial role in establishing a possible differential diagnosis based on imaging features and patient history for solid renal lesions. Knowledge of the Bosniak classification for cystic lesions and differentiation between well-defined and infiltrative solid lesions are essential in the diagnostic process.

Should patients with low-risk renal cell carcinoma be followed differently after nephron-sparing surgery vs radical nephrectomy?

Yasmin Abu-Ghanem et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine whether follow-up protocols for pT1 renal cell carcinoma patients should be based solely on stage and type of primary surgery. Results showed that validated risk factors should also be considered in determining imaging methods and avoid unnecessary imaging, with a follow-up of more than 3 years recommended for patients with pT1 tumors after RN. A novel follow-up strategy is proposed.

Radiomics in Renal Cell Carcinoma-A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Julia Muhlbauer et al.

Summary: Radiomics may have the potential to improve the discrimination of tumor dignity in renal masses, but its benefit in treatment response assessment remains unclear. Future studies should focus on clarifying the added value of radiomics in human assessment. Open science and shared data could enhance the reproducibility of studies in this field.

Clinical and radiological findings for small renal masses under active surveillance

Tarek Ajami et al.

Summary: Active surveillance of small renal masses (SRMs) is a feasible option for selected patients, with some cases showing no change in tumor size while others exhibited growth during follow-up, leading to delayed active treatment in a small percentage. There were no clinical or radiological characteristics found to predict tumor growth in this study.

Clear-cell renal cell carcinoma - A comprehensive review of agents used in the contemporary management of advanced/metastatic disease

Summary: Renal cell carcinoma, most commonly clear cell carcinomas, is the predominant malignancy of the kidney. Understanding molecular and metabolic pathways involved in cancer development has led to advancements in classification and identification of targetable molecules. The combination of immunotherapy and anti-angiogenic agents has become a standard in treating metastatic disease, with ongoing research into earlier treatment settings.
