On the CuO-Mn2O3 oxide-pair in CuMnOx multi-oxide complexes: Structural and catalytic studies

Jingjing Wang et al.

Summary: The study provides a new understanding of the active site of CuMnOx catalysts and suggests a new perspective in the development of effective and low-cost CuMnOx catalysts for heterogeneous catalytic oxidation reactions. The CuMnOx catalysts were found to consist of uniform CuO-Mn2O3 oxide pair structure, with highly isolated/dispersed CuO species anchored in the framework of Mn2O3. The speciation in these CuMnOx catalysts shifts from highly isolated or single Cu2+ oxide species to CuO nanoclusters and CuO microcrystalline with increasing Cu content.

Adsorption of Pb(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Ni(II), and Co(II) ions by newly synthesized 2-(2′-Hydroxyphenyl)Benzothiazole-functionalized silica

Melek Gucoglu et al.

Summary: This study utilized chemically functionalized silica to remove Pb(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Ni(II), and Co(II) ions from water samples. The adsorbent was prepared by immobilizing a newly synthesized ligand on the silica surface, and its adsorption performance was investigated. The results showed that the adsorbent had high selectivity for Cu(II) and Pb(II) ions in synthetic wastewater.

(3-Aminopropyl) Triethoxysilane (APTES) Functionalized Magnetic Nanosilica Graphene Oxide (MGO) Nanocomposite for the Comparative Adsorption of the Heavy Metal [Pb(II), Cd(II) and Ni(II)] Ions from Aqueous Solution

Cabangani Donga et al.

Summary: In this study, magnetic graphene oxide was synthesized and used for the adsorption of three heavy metals. The magnetic graphene oxide was prepared by coupling magnetic nanosilica with graphene oxide using (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane as a functionalizing agent. The experimental results showed that the Fe3O4@SiO2-NH2/GO nanoadsorbents exhibited excellent adsorption performance and stability.

Composition optimization of activated carbon-iron oxide nanocomposite for effective removal of Cr(VI)ions

Jaskiran Kaur et al.

Summary: In this study, nanocomposites of activated carbon and iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized in different mass ratios and evaluated for Cr(VI) ion removal. The optimized composition of the nanocomposite showed efficient removal of Cr(VI) ions and environmentally friendly characteristics. The magnetic properties and reducing characteristics of activated charcoal made the nanocomposites effective for Cr(VI) ion removal, magnetic separation, and regeneration.

A systematic review of clinical and laboratory findings of lead poisoning: lessons from case reports

Saeed Samarghandian et al.

Summary: Lead is a highly toxic heavy metal with traditional medication, occupational exposure, and substance abuse being common sources of exposure. Symptoms in patients often include neurological, gastrointestinal, and hematological disorders. Treatment strategies involving chelating agents combined with prevention of environmental exposure may help reduce lead poisoning rates.

Green copper oxide nanoparticles for lead, nickel, and cadmium removal from contaminated water

Alaa El Din Mahmoud et al.

Summary: Environmentally friendly copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) were successfully synthesized using a green synthesis route, and showed excellent adsorption capacity for heavy metal ions in wastewater. The CuO NPs exhibited maximum uptake capacity for Pb(II), followed by Ni(II) and Cd(II), with the adsorption equilibrium occurring within 60 minutes.

Impact of cadmium pollution on food safety and human health

Ibha Suhani et al.

Summary: Modern urbanization and industrial activities have raised concerns about heavy metal pollution, particularly cadmium which harms almost all life forms with no biological function. It enters ecosystems through natural and anthropogenic sources, impacting different trophic levels in the food chain and raising concerns for food safety and human health. The bioavailability, bioaccessibility, and accumulation of cadmium in soil-plant systems are key factors driving its transfer to different trophic levels, affecting cellular and molecular alterations.
