NIR-II window Triple-mode antibacterial Nanoplatform: Cationic Copper sulfide nanoparticles combined vancomycin for synergistic bacteria eradication

Can Li et al.

Summary: The widespread use of antibiotics leads to increasing drug resistance of bacteria, posing a threat to human health. Therefore, it is urgently required to develop new antibacterial strategies. In this study, a NIR-II window triple-mode synergetic antibacterial nanoplatform was developed based on the good photothermal properties of Copper sulfide (CuS) nanoparticles under near infrared (NIR) laser. The nanoplatform showed effective bacterial killing with the combination of positive charge on the surface, chemical sterilization induced by vancomycin, and strong photothermal effect. The nanoplatform also exhibited good biocompatibility, making it a promising candidate for antibacterial applications.

Yue Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, a composite nanomaterial was designed to achieve simultaneous sterilization and inflammation elimination by combining a photosensitizer and ROS scavenger. This nano-based platform can modulate host immunity by down-regulating pro-inflammatory macrophages and up-regulating anti-inflammatory and regenerative macrophages. Additionally, the local ROS level induced by activated inflammation pathway can be adjusted in a very long time due to the charge conversion effect of CeO2, improving the regenerative potential of inflammatory surrounding tissues in the animal model.
