Adsorptive removal of cefixime using a novel adsorbent based on synthesized polycation coated nanosilica rice husk

Thi Thuy Trang Truong et al.

Summary: The study investigates the adsorption of a strong polycation, PMAPTAC, on nanosilica extracted from rice husk for the removal of beta-lactam cefixime (CEF). The pre-adsorption of PMAPTAC on nano-SiO2 dramatically enhances CEF removal, resulting in a new adsorbent named PCNS. Optimization of parameters such as time, dosage, pH, and concentration led to successful CEF removal by PCNS, with a pseudo-second-order kinetics model fitting the adsorption process. The hybrid adsorbent PMAPTAC coated nano-SiO2 shows promising results for antibiotic removal from wastewater, even after multiple reuses.
