Activity-Composition Relationships of Fe-Ni-Cu Ternary Nanoparticles Supported on Al2O3 as Three-Way Catalysts for NO Reduction

Taiki Hirakawa et al.

Summary: Ternary FexNiyCu1-x-y metal nanoparticles supported on Al2O3 were investigated as three-way catalysts without precious metals. Near-equimolar catalysts exhibited the highest activity and the highest fraction of metallic states. The presence of Fe-Ni oxide improved the regenerability and stability of metallic-state Cu and Ni species, enhancing the stability of the active metallic state by promoting the oxidative adsorption of C3H6.

Calcium and copper substitution in stoichiometric and La-deficient LaFeO3 compositions: A starting point in next generation of Three-Way-Catalysts for gasoline engines

Jianxiong Wu et al.

Summary: Substituting calcium and copper in A-site and B-site of perovskites respectively led to significant improvements in CO and propene oxidation kinetics. The dual substituted samples were more stable, with calcium substitution stabilizing copper inside the perovskite lattice and slowing down subsequent surface agglomeration, leading to optimal performances in certain compositions. A progressive shift from suprafacial to intrafacial mechanism was observed in stoichiometric perovskites involving the redox Fe4+/Fe3+ couple and lattice oxygen species, resulting in a loss in rate.

Theoretical Study of NO Dissociative Adsorption onto 3d Metal Particles M-55 (M = Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu): Relation between the Reactivity and Position of the Metal Element in the Periodic Table

Nozomi Takagi et al.

Summary: The research investigated NO dissociative adsorption onto 3d metal particles M-55 (M = Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu) theoretically, showing that Cu-55 is less reactive compared to Fe-55, Co-55, and Ni-55. The results agree with experimental findings, indicating a decrease in reactivity for NO dissociative adsorption in the order of Fe < Co < Ni << Cu. The energy of the transition state and exothermicity values suggest that 3d metal particles are more reactive than 4d metal particles in the same group of the periodic table.

Mn- or Cu- substituted LaFeO3-based three-way catalysts: Highlighting different catalytically operating modes of La0.67Fe0.8M0.2O3 (M=Cu, Mn)

Shreya Nandi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the redox behavior of Cu- or Mn-doped LaFeO3-based perovskite powders under TWC conditions, revealing fundamentally different structures. Cu-dLFO demonstrates the expulsion of Cu2+ cations as segregated CuO phase, while Mn-dLFO stabilizes most Mn3+ cations within the perovskite solid solution, with additional iron exsolution. Both catalysts show redox activity during CO oxidation/NO reduction, with varying operating modes based on their different structures.

The catalytic decomposition of nitrous oxide and the NO plus CO reaction over Ni/Cu dilute and single atom alloy surfaces: first-principles microkinetic modelling

Konstantinos G. Papanikolaou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the reaction mechanism of two PGM-free Ni/Cu dilute alloys using density functional theory and microkinetic modeling. The addition of trace amounts of Ni on Cu(111) was found to significantly improve catalytic performance, particularly in the catalytic decomposition of N2O. Furthermore, Ni2Cu(111) showed equivalent or even better performance compared to Rh(111) in the NO + CO reaction, contributing to the development of efficient PGM-free catalytic materials for reducing noxious gases.
