1H NMR-Based Chemometrics to Gain Insights Into the Bran of Radiation-Induced Colored Wheat Mutant

Yun-Seo Kil et al.

Summary: Recently, wheat has gained attention as a functional food due to the presence of bioactive phytochemicals. The development of colored wheat has highlighted the nutritional quality and antioxidant properties of bran. A chemometric study using H-1 NMR analysis evaluated the compositional improvement of radiation-induced mutants in purple wheat, focusing on the high polarity metabolites. The study identified 33 metabolites and found that colored wheat exhibited improvements in primary metabolites compared to yellow wheat.

Pharmaceutical analysis by NMR can accommodate strict impurity thresholds: The case of choline

Prabhakar S. Achanta et al.

Summary: This study aimed to verify the suitability of 1H NMR spectroscopy for the detection of impurities and found that high-field NMR easily fulfills the regulatory standards for impurity detection. By selecting the appropriate solvent and using publicly available NMR raw data, the study showed that 1H NMR has sufficient sensitivity for pharmaceutical impurity analysis and uncovered some unnoticed characteristics.
