H2O2 alleviates salt stress effects on photochemical efficiency and photosynthetic pigments of cotton genotypes

Luana L. de S. A. Veloso et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of irrigation with waters of different electrical conductivities and foliar applications of hydrogen peroxide on the concentrations of photosynthetic pigments and quantum yield of naturally colored cotton genotypes. The results showed that high electrical conductivity water and high concentration hydrogen peroxide reduced the concentrations of photosynthetic pigments, but did not damage the efficiency of photosystem II.

Mitigation of salinity stress in cucumber seedlings by exogenous hydrogen sulfide

Metin Turan et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates that tolerance of cucumber seedlings to salt stress can be increased by hydrogen sulfide (H2S) treatments. H2S treatments mitigate the negative effects of salt stress on plant growth properties and chlorophyll content, reduce membrane permeability and increase leaf relative water content. Furthermore, H2S treatments improve photosynthetic properties and ion balance, suppress reactive oxygen species formation, and modulate antioxidant enzyme activity and osmolyte accumulation.

Saline water irrigation strategies and potassium fertilization on physiology and fruit production of yellow passion fruit

Geovani S. de Lima et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of saline water irrigation management strategies and potassium doses on the growth and yield of yellow passion fruit. The results showed that irrigation with high-salinity water reduced the concentration of photosynthetic pigments and gas exchange capacity of the fruit, while fertilization with 60% of the recommended potassium dose increased fruit production.

Interactive salinity and water stress severely reduced the growth, stress tolerance, and physiological responses of guava (Psidium Guajava L.)

Muhammad Mohsin Abrar et al.

Summary: This research found that high salinity and water shortage can inhibit the growth of guava, and guava cannot survive when the salinity reaches 40 dS m(-1). The dry weights of shoot and root decreased by over 70% under the treatment of 20 dS m(-1) + WS. Similarly, the guava showed the lowest stress tolerance under the treatment of 20 dS m(-1), followed by the treatment of 20 dS m(-1) + WS.

Hydrogen peroxide in the acclimation of yellow passion fruit seedlings to salt stress

Andre A. R. da Silva et al.

Summary: Hydrogen peroxide concentrations between 10 and 30 μM help yellow passion fruit plants acclimate to salt stress, mitigating the negative effects of salinity on their growth and physiology. However, irrigation water salinity combined with hydrogen peroxide concentrations above 30 μM causes a reduction in passion fruit growth and physiology.

Effect of saline irrigation on plant water traits, photosynthesis and ionic balance in durum wheat genotypes

Shobha Soni et al.

Summary: In the era of climate change, wheat faces challenges in yield due to decreased precipitation and increased evapo-transpiration. This study explored the potential of durum wheat genotypes under salinity based on physiological traits, finding significant variability among genotypes in different stress environments. Some durum genotypes showed less reduction in plant water traits under extreme salinity, indicating adaptability and potential for breeding programs to improve salt stress tolerance.

Gas exchange, growth, and quality of passion fruit seedlings cultivated with saline water

Geovani Soares de Lima et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the gas exchange, growth, and quality of passion fruit under irrigation with waters of different salinity levels. The results showed that the gas exchange and growth of passion fruit cultivars were negatively affected by water salinity, with an acceptable level of up to 3.5 dS m(-1) for seedling quality. The passion fruit cultivars were classified as moderately sensitive to water salinity during the seedling phase based on the relative yield of total dry phytomass.
