Light Intensity: The Role Player in Cucumber Response to Cold Stress

Tahereh Ashrostaghi et al.

Summary: Low temperatures have a significant impact on the geographic distribution of warm-season crops such as cucumber. This study investigates the effects of light intensity on photosynthesis and biochemical traits under low temperature stress. The results show that high photon flux densities exacerbate the negative effects of low temperature on cucumber seedlings.

An analysis of energy use and economic and environmental impacts in conventional tunnel and LED-equipped vertical systems in healing and acclimatization of grafted watermelon seedlings

Moein Moosavi-Nezhad et al.

Summary: This study examines the energy use, economic, and environmental impacts of two different systems for grafted watermelon seedlings in Iran. It found that the LED-equipped vertical systems (LVS) are less energy consumptive, environmentally burdensome, and more profitable compared to conventional tunnel systems (CTS). The study suggests using organic fertilizers, multi-floor LVS, and replacing CTS with LVS to promote sustainable agricultural production systems.

Elevated light intensity compensates for nitrogen deficiency during chrysanthemum growth by improving water and nitrogen use efficiency

Sara Esmaeili et al.

Summary: Identifying the environmental factors that improve plant growth under nitrogen constraint is crucial for sustainable greenhouse production. This study investigated the role of light intensity and nitrogen concentrations on chrysanthemum, finding that increased light intensity and nitrogen concentration enhanced vegetative and generative growth traits. High light intensity and nitrogen supply improved photosynthesis, stomatal functionality, and biomass partitioning towards floral organs, mitigating the adverse effects of nitrogen deficiency.

Blue light increases anthocyanin content and delays fruit ripening in purple pepper fruit

Ying Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of light intensity and spectrum on anthocyanin accumulation in purple-fruited Capsicum genotypes. The results showed that increasing the blue light fraction can increase anthocyanin levels and delay fruit ripening. Transcriptome analysis also revealed that fruits illuminated with higher blue light fractions expressed fewer genes related to ripening and senescence.

Blue Light Improves Photosynthetic Performance during Healing and Acclimatization of Grafted Watermelon Seedlings

Moein Moosavi-Nezhad et al.

Summary: The study showed that seedlings exposed to darkness had limited survival and poor growth, while those exposed to different wavelengths of light showed variations in growth, chlorophyll content, and photosynthetic efficiency. White and monochromatic blue light were found to have better promoting effects on shoot growth, pigments content, and photosynthetic efficiency, which could be beneficial for the healing of grafted seedlings.

Blue Light Improves Photosynthetic Performance and Biomass Partitioning toward Harvestable Organs in Saffron (Crocus sativus L.)

Shirin Moradi et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing the proportion of blue light can improve the growth and photosynthetic function of saffron, leading to more abundant corms and flowers. Compared to red light, blue light can increase the weight of daughter corms but reduce their number.
