Identification and Characterisation of Stripe Rust Resistance Genes Yr66 and Yr67 in Wheat Cultivar VL Gehun 892

Harbans Bariana et al.

Summary: The study identified resistance genes Yr66 and Yr67 against Puccinia striiformis in wheat cultivar VL Gehun 892 through hybridization and genetic analysis. Molecular markers were developed for marker-assisted selection of these genes in wheat breeding programs.

Genome-wide association study and genomic prediction of resistance to stripe rust in current Central and Northern European winter wheat germplasm

Fahimeh Shahinnia et al.

Summary: Two loci on chromosomes 2BS and 6AL were found to significantly contribute to stripe rust resistance in current European winter wheat germplasm. These findings provide valuable information for the breeding programs aimed at developing rust resistant cultivars. Genomic association analysis identified 12 SNP markers on six wheat chromosomes that consistently showed effects on adult plant stripe rust resistance. Two highly predictive markers on chromosomes 2BS and 6AL were validated in three independent populations, indicating their potential for efficient selection of resistant cultivars.

Breeding progress of disease resistance and impact of disease severity under natural infections in winter wheat variety trials

F. Laidig et al.

Summary: The study estimated breeding progress in resistance to fungal wheat diseases and the impact of disease severity on yield reduction. Results showed that breeding progress was higher for resistant varieties compared to susceptible ones, and the effects of ageing varied among different diseases.

Genome-Wide Association Analysis of Stable Stripe Rust Resistance Loci in a Chinese Wheat Landrace Panel Using the 660K SNP Array

Fangjie Yao et al.

Summary: This study identified 13 Chinese wheat landraces with stable resistance to stripe rust and mapped 17 quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with resistance on multiple chromosomes using a genome-wide association study approach. These findings provide valuable information for breeding wheat cultivars with durable resistance to stripe rust.

Quantitative Trait Loci Mapping of Adult Plant and Seedling Resistance to Stripe Rust (Puccinia striiformis Westend.) in a Multiparent Advanced Generation Intercross Wheat Population

Sandra Rollar et al.

Summary: Through interval mapping, 21 QTL for stripe rust resistance were identified in the Bavarian MAGIC wheat population, with two potentially new QTL located on wheat chromosomes 3D and 7D. Phenotypic evaluations were conducted for adult plant and seedling resistance across three years and locations.

Quantitative trait loci for yellow rust resistance in spring wheat doubled haploid populations developed from the German Federal ex situ genebank genetic resources

Ibrahim S. Draz et al.

Summary: Key resistance genes against the pathogen causing yellow rust in wheat were identified on chromosomes 1B and 6B in two doubled haploid spring wheat populations. The resistance genes from varieties in Iran and France explained up to 28% and 39% of phenotypic variation. The resistance was more effective in German environments, with moderate resistance observed in Egypt.
