Comparative analysis of phytochemical profile, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity from Hibiscus manihot L. flower

Ju-Zhao Liu et al.

Summary: Hibiscus manihot L. flower harvested in early August showed the highest antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential, with primary active components including hyperin, isoquercetin, hibifolin, and quercetin-30-O-glucoside closely associated with antioxidant activity. The extracts significantly inhibited nitric oxide production in RAW264.7 cells, especially in samples harvested around August.

Inhibitory Effect of a Rosmarinic Acid-Enriched Fraction Prepared from Nga-Mon (Perilla frutescens) Seed Meal on Osteoclastogenesis through the RANK Signaling Pathway

Kanokkarn Phromnoi et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of various perilla seed meal fractions and their impact on osteoporosis. The ethyl acetate fraction of seed meal showed the highest antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, with a high content of rosmarinic acid. It was found that this fraction effectively suppressed RANKL-induced osteoclast formation by downregulating NF-kappa B, AP-1 activation, and NFATc1 expression, and inhibited ROS production as well. These results suggest that the ethyl acetate fraction rich in rosmarinic acid has potential for osteoclastogenic protection and health promotion.

Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant in Vitro Activities of Magnoliae Flos Ethanol Extract

Ju Ri Ham et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the potential anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of Magnolia Flos ethanol extract (MFE) in LPS-stimulated macrophages. Results showed that MFE dose-dependently inhibited nitric oxide production and down-regulated expression of inflammatory genes. MFE also exhibited antioxidant activities in vitro and could be a valuable natural functional material for anti-inflammatory applications.

In vitro and cellular antioxidant activities of 3-deoxyanthocyanidin colourants

Yun Xiong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the antioxidant activity of four 3-deoxyanthocyanidins compared to a common anthocyanidin, revealing that luteolinidin, 5,7-dimethoxy-luteolinidin, and cyanidin consistently demonstrated high antioxidant activity. The results indicated that the antioxidant potency of 3-deoxyanthocyanidins is highly structurally dependent, with the B-ring catechol group playing an essential role in their high antioxidant activity.

Summary: HO-1, known for its antioxidant properties, has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects, making it a potential treatment for chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Inducing HO-1 has therapeutic potential, but there are challenges to translating this treatment to clinical use.
