Uncoordinated tetrazole ligands in metal-organic frameworks for proton-conductivity studies

Daeyeon Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, Zr-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) modified with uncoordinated tetrazole ligands were investigated for their proton conductivity. The results showed that the uncoordinated tetrazole-containing MOFs exhibited lower activation energy, indicating the involvement of Grotthuss proton conduction mechanism.

Post-synthetic ligand cyclization in metal-organic frameworks through functional group connection with regioisomerism

Dasom Kim et al.

Summary: A covalent connection between two orthogonal functional groups (-NH2 and -OH) in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has been developed. This was achieved through post-synthetic ligand cyclization (PSLC), and a benzoxazole-functionalized MOF was synthesized from a Zr-based UiO-66-2,3-(NH2)(OH) under microwave irradiation. In contrast, the regioisomeric UiO-66-2,5-(NH2)(OH) only produces a non-cyclized formamide-functionalized MOF.

Engineering Second Sphere Interactions in a Host-Guest Multicomponent Catalyst System for the Hydrogenation of Carbon Dioxide to Methanol

Thomas M. Rayder et al.

Summary: Many enzymes utilize second sphere interactions to enhance catalyst activity and selectivity. A strategy is reported for efficiently manipulating outer-sphere influence on catalyst reactivity by modulating host-guest interactions. The use of ammonium functional group in UiO-66 results in improved efficiency in hydrogenation reactions, demonstrating the importance of proximity between functional group and encapsulated catalyst.

Ion-conductive metal-organic frameworks

Masaaki Sadakiyo et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered a new class of ionic conductors due to their tuneable and highly ordered microporous structures, with extensive research on the ionic conduction of various ionic carriers in the pores of MOFs over the past decade. Reports show that the porous or channel structures of MOFs are suitable as ion-conducting pathways, with clear differences in basic designs depending on the ionic carriers. Examples and fundamental designs of highly ion-conductive MOFs with various types of ionic carriers have been summarized.
