The cold and hot collisional orogens: Thermal regimes and metallogeny of the Alpine versus Himalayan-Tibetan belts

Hongrui Zhang et al.

Summary: The thermal regime of collisional orogens plays a crucial role in their evolution, with the Alpine and Himalayan-Tibetan orogens representing cold and hot types, respectively. Major mineral deposit types include Mississippi Valley type Pb-Zn, orogenic gold, and porphyry Cu deposits, with porphyry Cu deposits only associated with hot orogens. Factors influencing the thermal regime of collisional systems include subduction rate, lithospheric mantle rheology, lithosphere thickness, and radiogenic heat production. The removal of suborogenic mantle lithosphere and upwelling of asthenosphere also significantly impact the thermal structure of collision zones.

Oroclinal buckling and associated lithospheric-scale material flow - insights from physical modelling: Implication for the Mongol-Hingan orocline

Ondrej Kryza et al.

Summary: This study presents a new analogue model of omclinal buckling based on the geological understanding of the Mongolian orocline, investigating the deformation patterns and lithospheric structure associated with the orocline development. The results suggest that oroclines with different materials exhibit varied geometries at different depths, contributing to our understanding of deep crustal structures in Mongolia.

Structures and geodynamics of the Mongolian tract of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt constrained by potential fi eld analyses

Alexandra Guy et al.

Summary: By integrating potential field analysis with geological and geochemical data, new insights into the crustal structure and evolution of the Mongolian collage are gained. The inconsistency between geologically defined terranes and geophysical domains in the southwestern part of the Mongolian collage is demonstrated by magnetic and gravity data. The homogeneous lower crust composed of felsic to intermediate juvenile material beneath a geophysically heterogeneous upper crust is interpreted as a result of a trench-directed lower crustal emplacement of an arc type crust underplating deformed Paleozoic oceanic crust.

Late Palaeozoic magmatism in the eastern Tseel Terrane of SW Mongolia evidenced by chronological and geochemical data

Tao Hong et al.

Summary: The eastern Tseel Terrane in Southwest Mongolia exhibits a prolonged period of arc-related magmatism during the Late Devonian to Late Carboniferous periods, as well as a bimodal volcanic suite. The geochemical data and LA-ICP-MS zircon ages suggest multiple episodes of magmatic activities in the region.
