An integrated organic-inorganic geochemical characterization of Paleogene sediments in No.1 Structural Belt of the Nanpu Sag, Bohai Bay Basin, eastern China: implications for the origin of organic matter

Yu Guo et al.

Summary: Paleogene sediments, specifically the Ed(3) member of the Dongying Formation and the Es-1 and Es-3 members of the Shahejie Formation, are identified as major source rocks in the Nanpu Sag. Organic and inorganic analyses were used to reconstruct paleoenvironmental conditions and identify the origin of organic matter. The results indicate different characteristics in the source rocks and suggest that suitable temperatures and specific environmental conditions are key factors for the formation of high-quality source rocks.

Conventional and Unconventional Hydrocarbon Resource Potential Evaluation of Source Rocks and Reservoirs: A Case Study of the Upper Xiaganchaigou Formation, Western Qaidam Basin, Northwest China

Yanchen Song et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the hydrocarbon generation properties of the upper Xiaganchaigou Formation in the Qaidam Basin and demonstrates its good resource prospects, especially for unconventional tight oil resources. The analysis includes quantifying different resource types, such as conventional oil, tight oil, and shale oil, based on geochemical characteristics and petrological features. This research provides insights into the hydrocarbon accumulation processes and has significant reference value for unconventional hydrocarbon exploration in other petroliferous basins.

Hydrocarbon source potential evaluation insight into source rocks-A case study of the first member of the Paleogene Shahejie Formation, Nanpu Sag, NE China

Enze Wang et al.

Summary: This study quantifies the characteristics of the source rocks in the Nanpu Sag, Bohai Bay Basin, NE China using an improved hydrocarbon generation potential evaluation method. The results show that the source rocks in Es1 are of high quality with desirable geological and geochemical characteristics, with promising resource potential. The study also provides a simple and practical workflow for resource evaluation that can be applied in other underexplored petroliferous basins.

Source Rock Evaluation and Hydrocarbon Generation Model of a Permian Alkaline Lakes-A Case Study of the Fengcheng Formation in the Mahu Sag, Junggar Basin

Yong Tang et al.

Summary: This study discusses the evaluation standards and hydrocarbon generation models of alkaline lake source rocks in the Fengcheng Formation in the Mahu Sag of the Junggar Basin. It finds that these source rocks have high hydrocarbon generation potential and a main characteristic of forming naphthenic crude oil.
