Meropenem pharmacokinetics in critically ill patients with or without burn treated with or without continuous veno-venous haemofiltration

Daniel J. Selig et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the pharmacokinetic parameters of meropenem in critically ill patients and found that creatinine clearance and total burn surface area significantly affect clearance and volume of distribution. Non-burn patients on continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH) had lower clearance rates compared to burn patients, indicating a need for dose adjustments. Burn surface area and CVVH did not impact the probability of target attainment.

Population pharmacokinetics of polymyxin B in critically ill patients receiving continuous venovenous haemofiltration

Peile Wang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the population pharmacokinetics of polymyxin B in patients undergoing continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVH) and proposed individualized dosing regimens for specific clinical scenarios. The results showed that CVVH significantly increased the clearance of polymyxin B, providing a basis for rational dosing in CVVH patients.

An optimal extended-infusion dosing of cefepime and ceftazidime in critically ill patients with continuous renal replacement therapy

Addison M. Sember et al.

Summary: This study determines the optimal extended-infusion dosing regimens for cefepime and ceftazidime in critically ill patients receiving continuous renal replacement therapy. The results suggest that a loading dose of 2 g followed by extended-infusion of 2 g every 8 hours may be the optimal choice, especially in standard effluent rates.

Continuous infusion versus intermittent infusion of vancomycin in critically ill patients undergoing continuous venovenous hemofiltration: a prospective interventional study

Jinhui Xu et al.

Summary: This prospective interventional study compared the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) target attainment, therapeutic efficacy, and safety between critically ill patients receiving continuous infusion (CI) or intermittent infusion (II) of vancomycin during continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVH). The study also explored the correlations between effluent flow rate (EFR) and PK/PD indices.

Population Pharmacokinetic Modeling and Simulations of Imipenem in Burn Patients With and Without Continuous Venovenous Hemofiltration in the Military Health System

Elaine D. Por et al.

Summary: Continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVH) is a life-sustaining procedure for patients with severe burns and acute kidney injury. This study aimed to compare imipenem clearance in burn patients with and without CVVH, and predicted imipenem central volume and clearance across different populations using a two-compartment model. The results showed that there was no significant difference in imipenem clearance between burn patients with and without CVVH.

Dose Optimization of Vancomycin for Critically Ill Patients Undergoing CVVH: A Prospective Population PK/PD Analysis

Chuhui Wang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine factors affecting pharmacokinetic profiles and optimal dosage regimens for critically ill patients undergoing CVVH. A two-compartment model with first-order elimination characterized vancomycin pharmacokinetics, with CL significantly correlated with UFR and albumin level. Recommended dosage regimens varied based on UFR and albumin levels, providing guidance for clinicians in choosing the optimal vancomycin dosage for these patients.
