Prediction of mass transfer and kinetic behavior during the extraction of high added-value products from sour cherry (Prunus cerasus L.) peels

Ebru Kurtulbas

Summary: In this study, a deep eutectic solvent-based microwave-assisted extraction method was used to convert biowaste into high added-value products. The results showed that there was efficient contact between the total polyphenols and the deep eutectic solvent system. The total amount of phenolic substances in the sour cherry peels varied between 4.29 and 33.61 mg-GAE/g of fresh material. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model was successfully applied for the extraction of TPC.

Highly clean recovery of natural antioxidants from lemon peels: Lactic acid-based automatic solvent extraction

Gizem Toprakci et al.

Summary: This study proposes a green extraction method using deep eutectic solvent-based automated solvent extraction (AMSE) from lemon peels. The optimal conditions for the highest yields of total phenolic, naringin, p-coumaric acid, and hesperidin were determined, and the scavenging activity of the lemon peel extract against DPPH free radical was measured.

A green method for the extraction of Moringa oleifera leaves: evaluation of several in vitro assays for bioactive properties

Raneen Albarri et al.

Summary: This study proposes a green extraction method using automated solvent extraction from the leaves of Moringa oleifera. By employing central composite design and response surface approach, the optimal conditions for achieving the highest total phenolic and flavonoid contents were determined. The results were validated through antioxidant activity tests using ABTS and DPPH assays, which showed a positive and satisfactory correlation with the findings.

Farahnaz Fathordoobady et al.

Summary: Red dragon fruit is a rich source of betalains compounds. In this study, mathematical models were used to predict the properties of alginate microspheres loaded with betacyanins extracted from red dragon fruit peel. The results show that the alginate microspheres effectively encapsulated betacyanins with improved storage stability and antioxidant properties, making them potential carriers for food colorant additives and oral delivery purposes.

Optimization of preparation and properties of Gardenia yellow pigment-loaded alginate beads

Yong Liu et al.

Summary: The Gardenia yellow pigment-loaded alginate beads were successfully prepared by the ionic gelation technique with optimized parameters, exhibiting a roughly spherical morphology with a wrinkled surface and a pH-dependent release profile with a two-step release process. The release mechanism of GYP from the alginate beads was determined to be non-Fickian transport and case-II transport at pH 1.2 and 7.4 respectively, and the antioxidant activity of the encapsulated GYP was effectively maintained at 82.56%.

Summary: In this study, automatic solvent extraction (AMSE) was used to extract natural bioactive ingredients from olive tree leaves, resulting in high yields of phenolic and flavonoid compounds. The experiment was designed and optimized using a 3-factor, 3-level Central Composite Design (CCD), with ethanol concentration found to be the most significant factor affecting the extraction process. The optimal conditions were determined to achieve the highest yields, with results showing convincing agreement with actual values.
