Towards practical quantum computers: transmon qubit with a lifetime approaching 0.5 milliseconds

Chenlu Wang et al.

Summary: A breakthrough in fabricating a long lifetime transmon qubit was reported, using tantalum films as the base superconductor with a dry etching process. The transmon qubits achieved a best T-1 lifetime of 503 μs, outperforming those fabricated with niobium and aluminum. The stable and highly anisotropic dry etching process of tantalum film shows promise for fabricating medium- or large-scale superconducting quantum circuits with longer lifetimes, meeting the requirements for practical quantum computers.

Reinforcement Learning Approach to Nonequilibrium Quantum Thermodynamics

Pierpaolo Sgroi et al.

Summary: The study utilizes a reinforcement learning approach to reduce entropy production in a closed quantum system. The method involves an external control Hamiltonian and policy gradient technique, offering an experimentally nondemanding approach to nonequilibrium quantum thermodynamics control. The approach does not depend on specific quantitative tools and requires little knowledge of the system dynamics.

Circuit quantum electrodynamics

Alexandre Blais et al.

Summary: Circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED) is an independent and thriving field of research that allows unprecedented detailed study and control of light-matter interaction at the quantum level. It has become essential in current approaches to gate-based digital quantum information processing with superconducting circuits, and also provides a framework for the study of hybrid quantum systems. The coherent coupling of superconducting qubits to microwave photons, dispersive qubit readout, and different regimes of light-matter interaction are key aspects of circuit QED.

Reinforcement learning-enhanced protocols for coherent population-transfer in three-level quantum systems

Jonathon Brown et al.

Summary: A combination of reinforcement learning and traditional optimization techniques is used to identify optimal protocols for population transfer in a multi-level system. The new protocols identified in the study are efficient and different from standard methods, showing robustness against energy losses and dephasing. This research has the potential to simplify the implementation of population transfer in experimental platforms like semiconducting and superconducting systems.

Realising and compressing quantum circuits with quantum reservoir computing

Sanjib Ghosh et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the use of a reservoir computing architecture with random quantum nodes as robust hardware for quantum computing. By optimizing a single layer of quantum nodes, the network can induce different quantum gates and compress sequences of multiple gates in quantum circuits, potentially reducing operation time and complexity.
