Assessment of the juvenile vulnerability of symbiont-bearing giant clams to ocean acidification

Jun Li et al.

Summary: The study found that juvenile symbiont-bearing giant clams show tolerance to moderate ocean acidification, but have sensitivity in their calcification physiology. This is reflected in reduced net calcification rate, as well as declines in symbiont photosynthetic yield and zooxanthellae density.

A calcification-related calmodulin-like protein in the oyster Crassostrea gigas mediates the enhanced calcium deposition induced by CO2 exposure

Summary: This study reveals that CgCaLP in Pacific oysters enhances calcium deposition and plays a vital role in the compensation strategy against acidified ocean by responding to elevated CO2 levels.

Oyster biomineralization under ocean acidification: From genes to shell

Kanmani Chandra Rajan et al.

Summary: The study suggests that mantle tissue in oysters can maintain biomineralization under ocean acidification conditions, with normal shell growth and mechanical properties. Ocean acidification is more of a 'dissolution problem' rather than a 'biomineralization problem' for resilient species.
