Correlation between Overconfidence and Learning Motivation in Postgraduate Infection Prevention and Control Training

Milena Trifunovic-Koenig et al.

Summary: Training in hand hygiene for healthcare workers is crucial for reducing hospital-acquired infections. Previous studies have found overconfidence effects in self-assessments of hand hygiene competencies. Overconfidence can either lead to lack of motivation for training or higher motivation to attend training. These findings highlight the importance of further research on training motivation in hand hygiene for healthcare providers.

Ethanol is indispensable for virucidal hand antisepsis: memorandum from the alcohol-based hand rub (ABHR) Task Force, WHO Collaborating Centre on Patient Safety, and the Commission for Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention (KRINKO), Robert Koch Institute, Berlin, Germany

Axel Kramer et al.

Summary: Ethanol-based hand rubs play a crucial role in preventing non-enveloped virus infections as there are no alternatives. Ethanol absorbed through hand hygiene is similar to ethanol consumed from low-alcohol beverages, and repeated use of ethanol-based hand rubs does not pose carcinogenic, mutagenic, or reprotoxic risks. Therefore, the WHO Task Force strongly recommends the continued use of ethanol in healthcare.

The problem of look-alike, sound-alike name errors: Drivers and solutions

Rachel Bryan et al.

Summary: Medication names that look or sound alike can lead to errors if not intercepted, potentially causing harm to patients. LASA errors are often due to shared linguistic properties and compounded by similar packaging, tablet appearance, strength, route, or indication. Solutions involve targeting individuals or systems to reduce distractions during medication administration, typographic tweaks, barcoding, and electronic physician order entry.
