Orally administered zingerone does not mitigate alcohol-induced hepatic oxidative stress in growing Sprague Dawley rat pups

Bernice Asiedu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of zingerone on neonatal alcohol-induced oxidative stress. The results showed that zingerone can mitigate the negative effects of alcohol on liver function in rats, but has no significant effect on growth and insulin and leptin concentrations.

Zingerone ameliorates non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in rats by activating AMPK

Heitham M. Mohammed

Summary: This study found that Zingerone has the potential to protect against the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease caused by a high-fat diet. The protection is mediated by modulating AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). Zingerone treatment can attenuate weight gain, preserve liver structure, and regulate various biochemical markers associated with oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. This protective effect is dependent on the activation of AMPK.

Neonatal Oral Administration of Chrysin Prevents Long-Term Development of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in a Sexually Dimorphic Manner in Fructose Nurtured Sprague Dawley Rats

Austin A. Ajah et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protective potential of chrysin against fructose-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The results showed that chrysin can prevent some of the harmful effects of high-fructose diets on the liver during early life, suggesting it as a strategic prophylactic intervention against high-fructose-diet-induced NAFLD.

Early-life exposure to alcohol and the risk of alcohol-induced liver disease in adulthood

Bernice Asiedu et al.

Summary: Alcohol consumption during pregnancy and lactation can result in fetal alcohol syndrome and impact the metabolic health of offspring, predisposing them to negative health outcomes. Additionally, prenatal alcohol exposure can program offspring for increased alcohol intake and acceptance, potentially leading to the development of alcohol-induced liver disease in adulthood.

Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease and lipoprotein metabolism

Summary: MAFLD is characterized by pathological accumulation of triglycerides in hepatocytes and is closely related to disturbances in systemic energy metabolism. Liver plays a central role in lipid metabolism, with excessive hepatic triglyceride synthesis being a key factor in the development of MAFLD. Interventions targeting lipid storage and energy combustion in adipose tissues may help ameliorate MAFLD.
