Analysis of electricity consumption and thermal storage of domestic electric water heating systems to utilize excess PV generation

Baran Yildiz et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the electricity consumption and hot water draw of domestic electric water heating systems (DEWH) in Australian households based on a unique dataset. The results showed that households on average use 6 kWh of energy for DEWH and 142 L of hot water daily. The potential for excess PV utilization in DEWH is highly dependent on daily hot water draw profiles and seasonality.

Techno-economic analysis of air source heat pump combined with latent thermal energy storage applied for space heating in China

Meng Yu et al.

Summary: This paper conducted a techno-economic analysis of heating systems in four typical cities in China and found that heat pump systems like QTASHP and ASHPLTES have advantages in energy saving and environmental protection for space heating. Although the initial and running costs of heat pump systems are higher, cost reductions can be achieved through increased productivity and government subsidies.

Quantifying the impact of residential space heating electrification on the Texas electric grid

Philip R. White et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of complete electrification of space heating in Texas residential sector on energy consumption, peak power demand, and grid capacity were investigated. Results showed that winter peak electricity demand in the residential sector could significantly increase with electrification, requiring grid capacity enhancement. However, higher efficiency heat pumps may lead to stable or decreased annual electricity consumption due to efficient cooling.
