Thermal performance and behavior analysis of SiO2, Al2O3 and MgO based nano-enhanced phase-changing materials, latent heat thermal energy storage system

Santosh Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of nanodoping on the thermal performance and overall behavior of PCM-based LHTES systems. The results show that the inclusion of nanoparticles significantly enhances the charging and discharging rates, but also decreases the thermal energy storage capacity. SiO2 doped PCM samples exhibit better thermal response and are suitable for commercial applications.

A synergistic improvement in heat storage rate and capacity of nano-enhanced phase change materials

Hongyang Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the utilization of nanoparticles in enhancing the thermal conductivity of phase change materials (PCMs) for latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) systems. Octadecylamine (ODA) is selected as the PCM, and multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are dispersed into the ODA to form uniform-mixed nano-enhanced PCMs (NePCMs). The results demonstrate that MWCNTs improve thermal conduction but also increase the viscosity of liquid NePCMs, which weakens convective heat transfer. However, the NePCM composite exhibits higher heat storage and release power, making it a promising candidate for LHTES systems.

Thermal performance of modified melamine foam/graphene/paraffin wax composite phase change materials for solar-thermal energy conversion and storage

Wei Cui et al.

Summary: This study addresses the issues of leakage, poor thermal conductivity, and poor light absorption in phase change materials (PCMs) by combining modified melamine foam (MF) and graphene nanoparticles (GNP). The composite PCMs fabricated with modified MF, paraffin wax (PW), and GNP exhibit good leakproof ability, high thermal conductivity, and excellent solar-thermal energy conversion capability. Furthermore, a thermoelectric conversion system driven by solar energy was developed to demonstrate the potential of these composite PCMs for cleaner energy production.

Numerical study and experimental validation of a multi-functional dual-air-channel solar wall system with PCM

Wei Ke et al.

Summary: A novel solar wall system with multiple functions is proposed in this study, which can generate electricity all year round, provide hot water in the non-heating season, and offer space heating in the heating season. Experimental results demonstrate that the system shows good electrical and thermal performance in various working modes, and parameter analyses are conducted to evaluate its performance under different conditions.

Melting performance enhancement of a phase change material using branched fins and nanoparticles for energy storage applications

Fakhar ul Hasnain et al.

Summary: This study highlights the enhancement of PCM melting performance through the application of branched fins and nanoparticles. Different fin designs are found to significantly improve melting efficiency, while the addition of nanoparticles further reduces melting time. However, the additional nanoparticles decrease the energy storage capacity.
