Atomic scale modulation strategies and crystal phase transition of flower-like CoAl layered double hydroxides for supercapacitors

Summary: In this study, cobalt aluminum layered double hydroxide and its derivatives were synthesized and their structure, morphology, chemical composition, and electrochemical performances were investigated. The cobalt aluminum layered double hydroxide exhibited superior capacitance performance, rate capability, and cycling stability compared to cobalt phosphide. Moreover, the asymmetric capacitors constructed with cobalt aluminum layered double hydroxide and graphene showed high energy density, coulombic efficiency, and capacitance retention.

Sandwich-structured carbon nanofiber/MnO2/carbon nanofiber composites for high-performance supercapacitor

Summary: Sandwich-structured carbon nanofiber/MnO2/carbon nanofiber composites with a triple layer were fabricated by electrospinning. The optimized composite electrodes exhibited excellent electrochemical performance, high energy density, and good cycling stability. The well-preserved MnO2 nanoparticles in the interlayer served as electroactive sites, while the hollow core in the interlayer provided an excellent conducting network and ion diffusion path.

All pseudocapacitive MXene-MnO2 flexible asymmetric supercapacitor

Summary: This study presents a flexible asymmetric supercapacitor device based on MXene, with an increased voltage window of 1.5 V, more than twice wider than symmetric devices. The asymmetric device exhibits high specific capacitance, good cycling stability, and can power a 3 V LED for 90 minutes after being bent 1000 times. It shows excellent application prospects for the next generation of electrochemical energy storage devices.

Boosted electrolytic hydrogen production at tailor-tuned nano-dendritic Ni-doped Co foam-like catalyst

Summary: The dynamic hydrogen bubble template (DHBT) method was used to design a microporous nano-dendritic Co film with foam-like morphology, which was subsequently doped with Ni and electropassivated in 1.0 M KOH to develop metal/oxygenated metal interfaces for efficient water dissociation in alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The electropassivated Ni-doped Co film exhibited superior activity compared with its precursors and benchmark catalysts, showing great potential as a robust catalytic material for electrolytic hydrogen production in alkaline media.

Carbon nanosheets/MnO2/NiCo2O4 ternary composite for supercapacitor electrodes

Summary: A novel ternary composite consisting of carbon nanosheets (CNS), MnO2 nanosheets arrays, and NiCo2O4 nanoneedles is developed, showing high capacitance and energy density. The combination of NiCo2O4 nanoneedles with MnO2 nanosheets contributes to improved pseudocapacitance.

NiFeOxHy/Ni3Fe interface design via electropassivation for superior catalysis of HER

The catalyst is electrodeposited as a foam-like film of Ni3Fe alloy using a dynamic hydrogen bubble template (DHBT) method, and subsequently electropassivated in a 1.0 M KOH solution to enhance the overall rate of water cleavage during HER. Various physicochemical analysis techniques are employed to characterize the catalyst, which is considered a promising earth-abundant material for electrolytic hydrogen production in alkaline media.

The obtained composite of delta-MnO2@Fe-CNF-5% exhibited excellent electrochemical performance, making it a promising material for charge storage and deionization applications.

Tailor-designed Ni-Co binary hydroxide electrodes for boosted supercapacitor applications: Smart selection of additives

Summary: In this study, cobalt hydroxide nanoparticles-based films were electrodeposited onto high surface area graphite felt for supercapacitor applications. Films prepared with iodate as additive showed the best performance with high specific capacitance and excellent rate capability, attributed to the generation of OH- during iodate reduction for better distribution of Co(OH)(2) throughout the matrix. Additionally, a binary film modified with Ni(OH)(2) exhibited outstanding rate capability at high power densities.
