Exploring a peptide nucleic acid-based antisense approach for CD5 targeting in chronic lymphocytic leukemia

Elena Cesaro et al.

Summary: In this study, we successfully downregulated the expression of CD5 in chronic lymphocytic leukemia using an innovative antisense approach based on Peptide Nucleic Acids. The results suggest that anti-CD5 PNAs could be potential therapeutics for CLL.

Summary: This article discusses the importance of hematopoietic stem cells and the bone marrow microenvironment in hematologic malignancies, as well as the impact of genetic mutations in this process. It also mentions the role of the extracellular matrix in promoting the evolution of hematologic cancers, although its precise role is not fully understood.

ZNF224 Protein: Multifaceted Functions Based on Its Molecular Partners

Elena Cesaro et al.

Summary: ZNF224 is a multifunctional protein that can act as a transcriptional repressor, activator, or coactivator for other DNA-binding transcription factors in different human cancers. Its distinct domain compositions mediate functional interactions with various proteins, allowing it to exert diverse transcriptional activities depending on the cell context.

KRAB-ZFP Transcriptional Regulators Acting as Oncogenes and Tumor Suppressors: An Overview

Joanna Sobocinska et al.

Summary: Kruppel-associated box zinc finger proteins (KRAB-ZFPs) constitute the largest family of transcriptional factors exerting co-repressor functions in mammalian cells. They play essential roles in various biological processes, including development, imprinting, retroelement silencing, and carcinogenesis. KRAB-ZFPs can act as oncogenes or tumor suppressors in various tumor types and are involved in regulating clinicopathological features, treatment response, and cancer cell phenotype through upstream and downstream molecular mechanisms.

Oxidative Stress and ROS-Mediated Signaling in Leukemia: Novel Promising Perspectives to Eradicate Chemoresistant Cells in Myeloid Leukemia

Silvia Trombetti et al.

Summary: Myeloid leukemic cells are intrinsically under oxidative stress due to impaired ROS homeostasis, and the redox-dependent signaling pathways play a crucial role in the leukemogenic process. New chemotherapy options that target cellular redox imbalance are discussed as an effective strategy to eradicate chemoresistant cells.

ZNF224 is a mediator of TGF-β pro-oncogenic function in melanoma

Elena Cesaro et al.

Summary: The zinc finger protein ZNF224 has been found to play a role in promoting tumorigenic properties in melanoma, including cell proliferation and invasiveness. ZNF224 modulates the expression of TGF-beta itself and its receptors, possibly enhancing endogenous TGF beta/Smad signaling and promoting epithelial-mesenchymal transition and tumor metastasis.
