Influence of Fluid Compressibility and Movements of the Swash Plate Axis of Rotation on the Volumetric Efficiency of Axial Piston Pumps

Pawel Zaluski

Summary: This paper describes the design of a swash plate axial piston pump and theoretical models explaining the bulk modulus of aerated and non-aerated fluids. The influence of dead space volume and fluid compressibility on the volumetric efficiency of the pump is considered. A displacement of the swash plate rotation axis is proposed to reduce the dead space volume for small swash plate swing angles. Comparative results confirm that the displacement of the swash plate rotation axis increases volumetric efficiency, particularly for high pressure discharge and small swash plate angles.

Cavitation in a high-speed aviation axial piston pump over a wide range of fluid temperatures

Qun Chao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the temperature effects on cavitation in an aviation axial piston pump through the development and experimental validation of a 3D transient CFD model. The numerical results show that low fluid temperature results in serious cavitation in the pump due to high viscosity, while high fluid temperatures have minor effects on the cavitation.

Optimization of the outlet unloading structure to prevent gaseous cavitation in a high-pressure axial piston pump

Bin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new method to reduce cavitation by changing the shape of unloading holes, which effectively redistributes the damaging power of cavitation. The crescent-shaped unloading hole design significantly improves the unloading rate and effectively decreases cavitation in the pump.

Adaptive decision-level fusion strategy for the fault diagnosis of axial piston pumps using multiple channels of vibration signals

Chao Qun et al.

Summary: This study proposed a multi-sensor fusion method to improve fault diagnosis performance of axial piston pumps, using a convolutional neural network to combine three channels of vibration data for more accurate classification of faults. Experimental results showed that the method significantly enhanced the classification accuracy by adjusting the probability distribution according to the learned weight matrix.

Fast scaling approach based on cavitation conditions to estimate the speed limitation for axial piston pump design

Qun Chao et al.

Summary: The paper presents a scaling law derived from an analytical cavitation model to estimate the speed limitations of axial piston pumps. Experimental verification and validation with open specification data show that the speed limitation is proportional to the square root of the inlet pressure and inversely proportional to the cube root of volumetric displacement. A characteristic constant C-p is defined based on the scaling law to represent the comprehensive capacity of axial piston pumps free from cavitation.

A Fast and Effective Method for the Optimization of the Valve Plate of Swashplate Axial Piston Pumps

Gianluca Marinaro et al.

Summary: This research introduces a lumped parameter numerical model for designing and optimizing an axial piston pump, which has shown good accuracy in predicting pump performance and reducing pressure ripple. The model is more efficient than computational fluid dynamic models and has been validated through experimental comparison. By optimizing the valve-plate geometry based on the model, a reduction in flow ripple and fluid-born noise was achieved.
