Influence of Reynolds number consideration for aerodynamic characteristics of airfoil on the blade design of small horizontal axis wind turbine

Neeraj Verma et al.

Summary: The aerodynamic characteristics of airfoils are crucial for the design and performance evaluation of wind turbine rotor blades. Inadequate consideration of Reynolds number may lead to discrepancies in optimum design and performance evaluation, as demonstrated in a study on small horizontal axis wind turbine blade design.

Numerical investigation of the effect of triangular cavity on the unsteady aerodynamics of NACA 0012 at a low Reynolds number

Rajesh Yadav et al.

Summary: Time accurate numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the effect of triangular cavities on the unsteady aerodynamic characteristics of NACA 0012 airfoil at a Reynolds number of 50,000. The results indicate that different positions and depths of cavities have varying effects on aerodynamic efficiency of the airfoil, with significant improvements observed in both steady and unsteady regimes. The findings can be used to enhance the aerodynamic performance of MAVs and UAVs flying at low Reynolds numbers.

Airfoil thickness effects on flow and acoustic characteristics

Sujit Kumar et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the aerodynamic characteristics of symmetric NACA airfoils at various thickness ratios, revealing lift/drag fluctuations at lower thickness ratios and proposing an empirical expression to predict lift and drag coefficients. The far-field acoustic measurements show that thicker airfoils emit lower acoustic emissions compared to thinner ones.

The implications of renewable and non-renewable energy generating in Sub-Saharan Africa: The role of economic policy uncertainties

Festus Fatai Adedoyin et al.

Summary: Sub-Saharan Africa has experienced significant economic expansion in the last decade, with an increase in real GDP and non-renewable energy generation leading to higher CO2 emissions. However, economic policy uncertainty in the region also plays a role in driving emissions, but moderates the impact of energy generation to reduce emissions levels. This highlights the importance of implementing sound macroeconomic and energy policies in the region to mitigate environmental degradation.

Wind energy for sustainable development: Driving factors and future outlook

Perry Sadorsky

Summary: This paper investigates the driving factors of wind energy consumption in 17 major consuming countries using the logarithmic mean Divisia index (LMDI) method. It identifies renewable energy share and improvements in energy intensity as the main factors affecting wind energy consumption. Forecasts show that Canada, Sweden, China, and Germany are expected to have the highest compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) in wind energy consumption. Countries with high shares of renewable energy like Spain, Portugal, and Denmark are predicted to have lower CAGRs. Future increases in wind energy consumption will rely on the continuous rise in renewable energy share, which is influenced by energy policies promoting the switch from fossil fuels to renewables.
