On development of heat transportation through bioconvection of Maxwell nanofluid flow due to an extendable sheet with radiative heat flux and prescribed surface temperature and prescribed heat flux conditions

Sohaib Abdal et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the thermal output for the flow of Maxwell nanofluid over an extending sheet with bioconvection. The inclusion of nanoparticles enhances the thermal transportation, while bioconvection prevents settling of the nanoparticles. By varying the influential parameters, the flow speed and fluid temperature can be affected. The numerical results are validated by comparison with existing studies.

A theoretical study on sensing properties of in-doped ZnO nanosheet toward acetylene

Peilong Xu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that indium doping can significantly enhance the sensitivity and selectivity of ZnO nanosheets to acetylene gas. The adsorption energy of acetylene increases significantly after indium doping, with the interaction mainly attributed to electrostatic forces. The indium-doped ZnO nanosheets can selectively detect acetylene in the presence of other gases and exhibit a short recovery time.

Mechanochemical reactions of GaN-Al2O3 interface at the nanoasperity contact: Roles of crystallographic polarity and ambient humidity

Jian Guo et al.

Summary: The study investigates the mechanochemical reactions at the GaN-Al2O3 interface under different environmental humidity conditions, revealing that the N-face exhibits stronger mechanochemical removal than the Ga-face. Increased water molecules in the environment significantly promote interfacial mechanochemical reactions, accelerating atomic attrition on the N-face. The hypothesized mechanism of selective water-involved mechanochemical removal is associated with the dangling bond configuration, altering the activation energy barrier to form bonding bridges across the sliding interface.

Numerical simulation of the mixing behaviour of hot and cold fluids in the rectangular T-junction with/without an impeller

Kexin Huang et al.

Summary: Thermal stratification is the main cause of thermal fatigue failure in rectangular T-junctions. By setting an impeller with a constant rotation speed, the mixing behavior of hot and cold fluids can be improved, and various flow patterns including wall jet, deflecting jet, and impinging jet can be observed. The relationship between mixing length and blade diameter is not monotonic, and the optimal operating point is around D-p* = 0.5 for impellers with 2 blades.

Summary: The study shows that laser surface textures can reduce the coefficients of friction, enhance wear resistance, and improve the dynamical performance of frictional surfaces. The surface with micro circular dimples in diameter of 150 mu m or textured area density of 25% has the best tribological and dynamical performance. Adding graphene to the lubrication oil effectively reduces frictional vibrations and noise, and surface textures enhance the frictional noise reduction performance of lubrication.

Interplay between counter-surface chemistry and mechanical activation in mechanochemical removal of N-faced GaN surface in humid ambient

Jian Guo et al.

Summary: The mechanical removal of GaN using diamond tip and mechanochemical removal using Al2O3 tip are described by the Archard equation and mechanically assisted Arrhenius-type kinetic model, respectively. Material removal under elastic contact with the assistance of interfacial mechanochemical reactions is evident. The critical activation volume and activation barrier are determined semiquantitatively by analyzing the mechanochemical reactions with Arrhenius-type kinetic model and Hertzian contact mechanics. The mechanical activation from the chemically active counter-surface facilitates the mechanochemical atomic attrition by altering the energy barrier of the reaction kinetics.
