Methane Production from the Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste Under Psychrophilic, Mesophilic, and Thermophilic Temperatures at Different Organic Loading Rates

Maria del Mar Ossa-Arias et al.

Summary: The study found that different temperatures and organic loading rates have a significant impact on methane production from anaerobic digestion of municipal solid waste's organic fraction. The digester operating at 35 degrees Celsius reached stable operation faster than the other two under higher organic loading rates.

Effects of anaerobic digestion of food waste on biogas production and environmental impacts: a review

Kah Rong Chew et al.

Summary: Anaerobic digestion of food waste appears to be a promising method for generating biogas in the face of increasing energy demand and the circular economy. It causes less air and solid waste pollution compared to other methods such as incineration, gasification, and pyrolysis. Research on biogas production mainly focuses on substrate performance, with limited investigations on the environmental impact of anaerobic digestion.

Isolation and Characterization of Beneficial Bacteria from Food Process Wastes

A-Leum Kim et al.

Summary: This study found that there are a large number of bacterial operational taxonomic units in food waste, with Firmicutes being abundant, followed by Bacteroidetes and Proteobacteria. A total of 92 bacteria were isolated from the food process waste, with Bacillus being the most abundant genus, followed by Streptomyces and Proteus. Six isolated bacteria exhibited beneficial traits, including indole acetic acid production, antifungal resistance, and extracellular lysis.
