Soil nutrient supply and tree species drive changes in soil microbial communities during the transformation of a multi-generation Eucalyptus plantation

Yuxing Xu et al.

Summary: The intensive management of Eucalyptus plantations has raised concerns about their impact on the environment and society, particularly regarding the transformation of monoculture plantation cutover areas. This study investigated how different transformation patterns of Eucalyptus plantations affected soil microbial communities and functions. The results showed that the transformation pattern of Eucalyptus x Manglietia glauca Blume mixed plantations significantly improved soil fertility compared to monoculture plantations.

Litter manipulation effects on microbial communities and enzymatic activities vary with soil depth in a subtropical Chinese fir plantation

Ren Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that adding litter to the soil generally has positive effects, while removing litter may have different effects on soil properties, especially on soil nutrients, microbial communities, and enzymatic activities. In addition, enzymatic stoichiometry is more influenced by soil depth, and soil microbial communities and enzymatic activities exhibit asynchronous responses with increasing profile depth.

Comparison of Soil Properties, Understory Vegetation Species Diversities and Soil Microbial Diversities between Chinese Fir Plantation and Close-to-Natural Forest

Lingyu Hou et al.

Summary: The study found that soil properties and biodiversity were significantly higher in close-to-natural forests compared to different aged Chinese fir plantations. Richness of undergrowth vegetation species diversity and soil microbial diversities were notably higher in the close-to-natural forests. Correlation analysis indicated that shrub species diversity was more correlated with soil properties than herb species, fungi diversity was more correlated with soil properties than bacteria, and fungi diversity was significantly correlated with undergrowth vegetation species diversities.
