Redox-sensitive signaling pathways in renal cell carcinoma

Alfredo Cruz-Gregorio et al.

Summary: Renal cell carcinoma is a highly lethal urological cancer that is highly resistant to chemo and radiotherapy. Obesity and smoking are well-known risk factors for RCC, and surgical resection is the treatment of choice for localized RCC. However, this type of cancer is often diagnosed at late stages and systemic therapies are the option for more advanced stages, although still insufficient. Investigating redox-sensitive molecules and signaling pathways may provide potential targets for redox therapy in RCC.

Targeting prooxidant MnSOD effect inhibits triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) progression and M2 macrophage functions under the oncogenic stress

Aushia Tanzih Al Haq et al.

Summary: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and the aggressive subtypes of HER2(+) breast cancer are associated with high expression levels of mitochondrial superoxide dismutase (MnSOD). The oncoprotein MCT-1 induces MnSOD in TNBC cells by stabilizing the transcription factor Nrf2. High expression of MnSOD correlates with poor prognosis in breast cancer patients.

Redox state associated with antitumor and immunomodulatory peptides in cancer

Alfredo Cruz-Gregorio et al.

Summary: Cancer is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide, and although cancer mortality has decreased in recent years, some forms of cancer are resistant to immunotherapies. Antitumor and immunomodulatory peptides are a promising approach due to their ability to activate immune cells and have fewer side effects. The regulation of the redox state, which has been poorly studied, plays a crucial role in the immune system's response to these peptides. This review focuses on understanding the redox state regulated by these peptides in cancer development and its potential as a therapy.
