Effect of plant growth regulators and salt stress on secondary metabolite composition in Lamiaceae species

Muhammed Assaf et al.

Summary: Medicinal and aromatic plants are a valuable natural resource for the production of secondary metabolites used in various industries. The quality and quantity of these metabolites are influenced by factors such as salinity and plant growth regulators. Moderate levels of salinity and exogenous treatments of plant growth regulators can enhance the production of secondary metabolites. However, further research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms and optimize the content and composition of these metabolites.

Cytokinin-Based Tissue Cultures for Stable Medicinal Plant Production: Regeneration and Phytochemical Profiling of Salvia bulleyana Shoots

Izabela Grzegorczyk-Karolak et al.

Summary: The study focuses on exploring the organogenic competence of various growth regulators to develop an efficient protocol for in vitro regeneration of Salvia bulleyana via leaf explants, aiming to maintain high production of active constituents and assess the possibilities of producing therapeutic compounds. Both direct and indirect organogenesis were observed, with the highest regeneration frequency achieved on leaves cultured in specific growth medium. The genetic stability of the obtained organogenic shoot lines was confirmed through ISSR marker-based profiling, indicating potential for stable cultures rich in bioactive metabolites.
