Effects of early pregnancy on the complement system in the ovine thymus

Leying Zhang et al.

Summary: The complement system plays a role in maternal thymic immune regulation during early pregnancy in sheep. Early pregnancy inhibits the expression of certain complement components in the maternal thymus, while inducing the upregulation of other components. These findings suggest that the complement system is essential for maternal immune regulation and successful pregnancy in sheep.

P. Feng et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the effects of early pregnancy on expression of PRL and PRLR in maternal immune organs in sheep. The results showed an upregulation of PRL and PRLR in the thymus, lymph node, and spleen, and a downregulation in the liver during early pregnancy in ewes.

RANK links thymic regulatory T cells to fetal loss and gestational diabetes in pregnancy

Magdalena Paolino et al.

Summary: The study shows that the osteoclast differentiation receptor RANK plays a key role in hormone-mediated development of thymic T-reg cells during pregnancy, and expands the functional role of maternal T-reg cells to gestational diabetes and transgenerational metabolic rewiring of glucose homeostasis.

Katarzyna Wicherska-Pawlowska et al.

Summary: The innate immune system recognizes pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) through pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), activating immune cells and initiating inflammatory and immune responses. This system also plays a role in cancer immunosurveillance, with potential for natural and synthetic agonists of PRRs to be used as adjuvants in cancer immunotherapies.

Induction of CIITA by IFN-γ in macrophages involves STAT1 activation by JAK and JNK

Juan Tur et al.

Summary: The induction of MHC class II proteins by IFN-γ in macrophages requires the involvement of signaling pathways, with CypA playing a key role in the process by affecting the expression of CIIta. This study highlights the importance of cross talk between different pathways, with STAT1 being essential for the two-step induction of CIIta.

NLRP7: From inflammasome regulation to human disease

Jessica Carriere et al.

Summary: NOD-like receptors are cytosolic pattern recognition receptors that play a role in innate immune response. Activation of NLRs results in the assembly of inflammasomes, which are responsible for the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. NLRP7 mutations have been linked to reproductive diseases, particularly molar pregnancy, but the specific molecular mechanisms are still largely unknown.

The Ferroptosis-NLRP1 Inflammasome: The Vicious Cycle of an Adverse Pregnancy

Meihe Li et al.

Summary: This study observed excessive levels of ferroptosis and inflammasome activation in both rats' model and placental trophoblast cell model of oxidative stress. Silencing of NLRP1 inflammasome increased the expression levels of GSH and GPX4, while activation led to opposite results. The levels of NLRP1, NLRP3, IL-1 beta, and caspase-1 were positively correlated with ferroptosis, indicating a connection between ferroptosis and inflammasome expression.
