Ultra-high molecular weight pullulan-based material with high deformability and shape-memory properties

Zhaoxuan Feng et al.

Summary: A novel shape-memory polymer based on microbially produced ultrahigh-molecular-weight pullulan has been developed in this study. 3D-printed structures with complex shapes and shape memory properties were fabricated using this polymer. The sustainable and eco-friendly approach proposed in this study has the potential to overcome the limitations of petroleum-based polymers.

Pullulan biosynthesis and its regulation in Aureobasidium spp.

Xin Wei et al.

Summary: Different strains of Aureobasidium spp. can produce a large amount of pullulan, but the biosynthesis and regulation of it have not been resolved. Recently, the molecular mechanisms of pullulan biosynthesis and regulation have been elucidated through genome-wide mutant analysis. Pullulan biosynthesis is regulated by glucose repression and signaling pathways.

Correlation between the synthesis of pullulan and melanin in Aureobasidium pullulans

Fei Liu et al.

Summary: The study found a strong positive correlation between pullulan and melanin content; lack of melanin resulted in decreased pullulan yield, but could be increased by adding melanin; lack of pullulan could restore melanin synthesis, and high concentrations of pullulan induced morphological transformation and melanin synthesis.

Improved production of β-glucan by a T-DNA-based mutant of Aureobasidium pullulans

Xing Chen et al.

Summary: Disrupting the mal31 gene significantly increases beta-glucan production in A. pullulans, while reducing its pullulan production capability. This study provides an effective method for improving beta-glucan production and identifies a useful gene for metabolic engineering to enhance polysaccharide production.
