Biochar from olive mill solid waste as an eco-friendly adsorbent for the removal of polyphenols from olive mill wastewater

Nozha Abid et al.

Summary: This study for the first time discusses the valorization of olive mill solid waste (OMSW) into biochar (BC) as an adsorbent for polyphenols in olive mill waste water (OMW). The optimization of process parameters using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) reveals the significant influence of pH, adsorbent dosage, pyrolysis temperature, and polyphenols loading on the adsorption. The Freundlich isotherm model effectively describes the experimental adsorption process, with a maximum polyphenol adsorption of 140.47 mg/g at 30 degrees C.

Biostimulation of food waste anaerobic digestion supplemented with granular activated carbon, biochar and magnetite: A comparative analysis

Maria F. Altamirano-Corona et al.

Summary: The study investigated the biostimulant effect of three conductive materials on anaerobic digestion of food waste, finding that Fe3O4 at 0.1 g/L and BC at 1 g/L resulted in the greatest increase in methane yield, by 30.1% and 20.3% respectively. The materials' physicochemical properties enhanced the AD process, with lower doses of the materials leading to higher methane production.
