Deep-E: A Fully-Dense Neural Network for Improving the Elevation Resolution in Linear-Array-Based Photoacoustic Tomography

Huijuan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel method Deep-E is proposed to improve the elevational resolution of a linear array by converting the three-dimensional problem into a two-dimensional problem. It shows high computational efficiency and can enhance image resolution significantly. Experimental results demonstrate that Deep-E can improve elevational resolution at least four times and recover the true size of objects.

Single-cell transcriptomic analysis of the immune cell landscape in the aged mouse brain after ischemic stroke

Xuan Li et al.

Summary: This study utilized single-cell RNA sequencing and a new transient ischemic stroke mouse model to generate, for the first time, a composite picture of immune cell populations in the aged brain at single-cell resolution post-stroke. At least 6 microglial subsets and major infiltrated myeloid cell subpopulations were identified with unique molecular profiles in the stroke aged brain.

Summary: The study presents a new low-cost fiber diffuser based on graded-scattering method to address the issue of optical attenuation in photoacoustic imaging through biological tissues. Through numerical simulations and experimental validation, it demonstrates that the optimized fiber diffuser provides relatively uniform light emission and deep-imaging capability in photoacoustic tomography.

Increasing O-GlcNAcylation is neuroprotective in young and aged brains after ischemic stroke

Zhuoran Wang et al.

Summary: Our study established the neuroprotective role of XBP1s in ischemic stroke, linked to O-GlcNAcylation, and the therapeutic potential of targeting this axis, particularly in the aged brain. We discovered a novel mechanism involving compromised UDP-GlcNAc availability in the aged brain, contributing to impaired O-GlcNAcylation activation after ischemia. Furthermore, we confirmed the therapeutic effects of glucosamine treatment in both young and aged animals in stroke models, supporting the promise of increasing O-GlcNAcylation in stroke therapy.
