Effect of Alirocumab Added to High-Intensity Statin Therapy on Coronary Atherosclerosis in Patients With Acute Myocardial Infarction The PACMAN-AMI Randomized Clinical Trial

Lorenz Raber et al.

Summary: Among patients with acute myocardial infarction, the addition of biweekly subcutaneous alirocumab to high-intensity statin therapy resulted in significantly greater regression of coronary plaques in non-infarct-related arteries after 52 weeks. Further research is needed to understand whether alirocumab improves clinical outcomes in this population.

Less revascularization in young women but impaired long-term outcomes in young men after myocardial infarction

Anne M. Kerola et al.

Summary: Compared to young men, young women receive less treatment after myocardial infarction, but after adjusting for baseline features, male patients have poorer cardiovascular outcomes.

Early statin use and cardiovascular outcomes after myocardial infarction: A population-based case-control study

Ville Kyto et al.

Summary: This study found that not using statins early after myocardial infarction (MI) is associated with adverse outcomes, including higher all-cause mortality and incidence of cardiovascular events. The lack of statin therapy was associated with increased risk for patients, regardless of other factors such as gender, age, comorbidities, etc.

Case Fetality of Patients With Type 1 Diabetes After Myocardial Infarction

Anne M. Kerola et al.

Summary: This study found that patients with type 1 diabetes have a higher case fatality rate after myocardial infarction compared to patients without diabetes. Younger age, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, and no revascularization were associated with the highest risk.

Impact of Oral Anticoagulation and Adenosine Diphosphate Inhibitor Therapies on Short-term Outcome of Traumatic Brain Injury

Jussi P. Posti et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of oral anticoagulant (OAC) and adenosine diphosphate inhibitor (ADPi) therapies on short-term outcomes after traumatic brain injury (TBI). The results show that patients using vitamin K antagonists (VKA) have a higher case-fatality rate compared to patients without OAC. However, patients using direct OACs (DOAC) have lower case-fatality rates, and ADPi is not associated with the outcomes studied.

Intensity of and Adherence to Lipid-Lowering Therapy as Predictors of Major Adverse Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients With Coronary Heart Disease

Faizan Mazhar et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the associations of lipid-lowering therapy (LLT) intensity, adherence, and their combination with the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with coronary heart disease. The results showed that higher LLT adherence and intensity were associated with a lower risk of MACE and higher odds of achieving low-density lipoprotein cholesterol goals. Strategies to improve adherence and use of intensive therapies could significantly reduce cardiovascular risk in these patients.

Cardiovascular event rates increase after each recurrence and associate with poor statin adherence

Mariann Lassenius et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the quality of cardiovascular prevention by assessing the recurrence of up to five cardiovascular events and investigating low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations and lipid-lowering therapy use. The results showed a wide interindividual variation in cardiovascular event recurrence, with each additional event increasing the risk and the median time of recurrence decreasing. Underuse of statins and poor adherence were associated with increased risk of recurrence, highlighting the need for intensified preventive measures in these patients.

Summary: Adherence to guideline-recommended medications for secondary prevention of myocardial infarction has improved in Estonia, but there is still room for enhancement, emphasizing the need for systematic guideline implementation and increased attention to secondary prevention of MI.

Summary: Clinical trials have shown that reducing LDL-C can decrease cardiovascular events, and a study found that larger reductions in LDL-C and more intensive statin therapy after myocardial infarction were associated with lower risks of cardiovascular outcomes and all-cause mortality.

Clinical impact and room for improvement of intensity and adherence to lipid lowering therapy: Five years of clinical follow-up from 164,565 post-myocardial infarction patients

Francois Schiele et al.

Summary: The study found that high-intensity LLT prescriptions were limited and adherence to LLT was low among patients with a history of myocardial infarction. Higher treatment intensity, adherence, and adherence-adjusted intensity were all associated with a significantly lower risk of major adverse cardiovascular events.
