Improvement in Mechanical Properties of 3D-Printed PEEK Structure by Nonsolvent Vapor Annealing

Wenhui Chen et al.

Summary: A cost-effective postprocessing method based on annealing in nonsolvent vapor at room temperature is developed to improve the mechanical properties of 3D-printed poly-ether-ether-ketone (3D-PEEK) structures. The improved mechanical properties include strength, ductility, and fracture energy, which are attributed to enhanced interfacial bonding, increased crystallinity, decreased pinhole defects, and stress relaxation. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of nonsolvent vapor annealing in improving the mechanical properties of 3D-PEEK and suggests potential applications in various fields.

Experimental investigation and optimization of printing parameters of3Dprinted polyphenylene sulfide through response surface methodology

Anouar El Magri et al.

Summary: Fused filament fabrication is currently widely used for high performance materials manufacturing, with polyphenylene sulfide chosen as the base material in this study. Optimizing parameters such as nozzle temperature, printing speed, and layer thickness significantly improved the output responses. Additionally, annealing the printed PPS parts at 200 degrees Celsius for 1 hour enhanced their thermal, structural, and tensile properties.

Comparing polarized Raman spectroscopy and birefringence as probes of molecular scale alignment in 3D printed thermoplastics

Nora M. Hassan et al.

Summary: Orientation of polymer chains plays a crucial role in polymer dynamics at interfaces during thermoplastic material extrusion additive manufacturing. Utilizing polarized Raman spectroscopy and birefringence measurements, the study quantified chain orientation in 3D printed polycarbonate filaments, providing a surface-sensitive and non-destructive method. Results showed that birefringence measurements underestimated orientation compared to Raman measurements, highlighting the importance of accurate measurement techniques in understanding polymer chain orientation.
