This article discusses the advantages, progress, and challenges of I-III-VI quantum dots as down-converters in the field of WLEDs, and explores the stability issues and future development prospects.
I-III-VI quantum dots (QDs) are considered as promising down-conversion materials for white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) due to their unique and excellent properties, leading to a constant springing up of researches in recent years. This article focused on the advantages, current progress, and possible challenges related to I-III -VI QDs as down-converters in the rapidly evolving research field of WLEDs. We began by presenting the essential background of color-converted WLEDs to thoroughly comprehend high-performance general lighting re-quirements. Afterward, we highlighted the recent advancements related to I-III-VI QDs according to the three primary strategies for white light realization. In addition, we discussed the stability issues of both I-III-VI QDs and related WLED devices to prepare for practical application. Finally, we concluded with the current problems encountered and gave an outlook on the development of color-conversion WLEDs based on the remarkably potential I-III-VI QDs.
