Summary: Coastal floodplain soils characterized by high organic matter content, marine influence, and poor drainage can develop into acid sulfate soils with high acidity when drained. The study in the Camocim River floodplain in Brazil identified the presence of acid sulfate soils and recommended special management measures for sugarcane cultivation in the area. Special management measures include regulating water level, maintaining soil saturation, and neutralizing acidification from iron sulfide oxidation.

Selective reduction of nitrite to nitrogen gas by CO2 anion radical from the activation of oxalate

Summary: A novel process for selective NO2- reduction was proposed based on the activation of oxalic acid by UV radiation coupled with Fe3+, promoting the generation of CO2 center dot- radical to enhance the reduction efficiency. The Fe(III)/OA/UV/NO2- system achieved 100% removal of NO2-, 94.72% of total nitrogen (TN), and 94.72% selectivity for N-2.
