Periodontal surgery using rhFGF-2 with deproteinized bovine bone mineral or rhFGF-2 alone: 2-year follow-up of a randomized controlled trial

Hideto Aoki et al.

Summary: The study compared the outcomes of rhFGF-2 + DBBM therapy and rhFGF-2 alone in treating intrabony defects, showing that both treatments were equally effective in improving clinical attachment level (CAL) at 2 years, but the test treatment achieved significantly greater radiographic bone fill (RBF). Favorable clinical, radiographic, and patient-reported outcomes were sustained for at least 2 years in both treatments.

Impact of adjunctive procedures on recombinant human fibroblast growth factor (rhFGF-2) mediated periodontal regeneration therapy: A retrospective study

Yohei Nakayama et al.

Summary: Modified papilla preservation technique (mPPT) and autogenous bone grafts (AG) act as powerful adjunctive effects on rhFGF-2 therapy, significantly improving probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and bone defects. The combination of mPPT and AG shows positive correlations with improvements in radiographic bone fill, highlighting the importance of these adjunctive procedures in periodontal tissue regeneration. More studies are needed to confirm these findings through randomized clinical trials.

Comparison of the performances of low-crystalline carbonate apatite and Bio-Oss in sinus augmentation using three-dimensional image analysis

Koudai Nagata et al.

Summary: The study compared the volume and amount of bone resorption of demineralized bovine bone mineral (Bio-Oss (R)) and carbonate apatite (Cytrans (R)) after a sinus lift. Results showed a significant difference in bone resorption between the Bio-Oss (R)-treated group (25.2%) and the Cytrans (R)-treated group (14.2%), indicating that Cytrans (R) is more promising for successful implant treatments requiring a sinus lift.
