Genetic diversity and population structure of the USDA collection of Brassica juncea L.

Hussein Abdel-Haleem et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genetic diversity and relatedness in the USDA collection of Brassica juncea. By genotyping 340 samples, a total of 99030 high-quality SNP markers were identified. Population structure and PCA analysis revealed five distinct subpopulations, with the largest subpopulation traced back to Pakistan and India. The results demonstrated a high genetic diversity and genetic differentiation among subpopulations in the USDA collection of B. juncea.

Utilization of Genotyping-by-Sequencing (GBS) for Rice Pre-Breeding and Improvement: A Review

Vincent Pamugas Reyes et al.

Summary: Molecular markers are crucial in rice improvement, and genotyping-by-sequencing has enabled high-throughput sequencing and genotyping, making it more efficient and cost-effective for the utilization of rice genetic resources. Currently, genotyping-by-sequencing is being used in rice pre-breeding programs to discover beneficial genes and QTL, leading to advancements in rice cultivar improvement.

Marker-Assisted Introgression and Stacking of Major QTLs Controlling Grain Number (Gn1a) and Number of Primary Branching (WFP) to NERICA Cultivars

Vincent P. Reyes et al.

Summary: This study successfully introgressed and stacked major yield QTLs Gn1a and WFP into selected NERICA cultivars using marker-assisted backcross breeding, leading to improvements in rice yield traits. The combination of marker-assisted selection and phenotypic evaluation at BC3F4 and BC3F5 generations effectively selected lines with target alleles and traits. Genotyping-by-sequencing validated the introgression and demonstrated the potential of utilizing yield QTLs and marker-assisted selection to improve rice cultivars.

Molecular genetic diversity and population structure analyses of rutabaga accessions from Nordic countries as revealed by single nucleotide polymorphism markers

Zhiyu Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genetic diversity of 124 rutabaga accessions from five Nordic countries using a 15K SNP Brassica array. The results showed that accessions from Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark were genetically similar, while those from Iceland were significantly different. Icelandic rutabaga accessions were found to offer valuable germplasm for crop improvement.

EDS1 signalling: At the nexus of intracellular and surface receptor immunity

Joram A. Dongus et al.

Summary: The EDS1 protein plays a crucial role in transmitting signals from pathogen-activated NLR receptors to transcriptional defenses and host cell death. It forms heterodimers with SAG101 and PAD4, with different complexes and functions in mediating effector triggered immunity and promoting basal immune responses. Understanding these EDS1 modules will help connect intracellular and surface receptor signaling networks in plant immune system.

Development of an Aus-Derived Nested Association Mapping (Aus-NAM) Population in Rice

Justine K. Kitony et al.

Summary: The development of a rice nested association mapping population (aus-NAM) using aus varieties as diversity donors and T65 as the common parent showed broad phenotypic variations, providing a valuable genetic resource for crop improvements. Characterization of known flowering genes (Ehd1, Hd1, and Ghd7) in rice using different mapping methods revealed Ehd1 to be consistently detected, while Hd1 and Ghd7 showed weaker and more uncertain results in some families.

Genetic diversity and population structure analysis of 161 broccoli cultivars based on SNP markers

Jingjing Huang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the genetic diversity and population structure of 161 broccoli cultivars in China, revealing similarities in genetic backgrounds between foreign and domestic cultivars, but differences between domestic cultivars and Japanese cultivars. Population structure analysis showed that the 161 cultivars could be simplified into 1 simple group and 1 mixed group.
