Association of saponin concentration, molecular markers, and biochemical factors with enhancing resistance to alfalfa seedling damping-off

Clara R. Azzam et al.

Summary: Fifteen alfalfa populations were tested for resistance to damping-off disease and the results showed that the resistance was associated with saponin and lignin content in the roots. Breeding for resistance and using molecular markers like SSR and SCoT can contribute to genetic diversity and germplasm classification in alfalfa.
