Milk proteins as mastitis markers in dairy ruminants-a systematic review

Anna Giagu et al.

Summary: Mastitis is a major disease in dairy farming, and its detection is crucial for effective treatment. Non-enzymatic milk proteins have been investigated as alternative biomarkers for mastitis, and immunoassay techniques have been developed for their detection. However, there is significant heterogeneity among studies, highlighting the need for standardized criteria.

Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy-Somatic Cell Count as a Method for Diagnosis of Bovine Mastitis

Shigenobu Kasai et al.

Summary: In this study, a portable electrochemical device was developed as a novel method for diagnosing mastitis. By measuring the difference in oxygen concentration and the number of somatic cells, mastitis can be accurately diagnosed.

Both sampling seasonality and geographic origin contribute significantly to variations in raw milk microbiota, but sampling seasonality is the more determining factor

Xiaocen Guo et al.

Summary: The study found that seasonality and sampling region were significant factors influencing the raw milk microbiota, with the diversity of milk microbiota being more related to seasonality rather than sampling region. Despite the wide variation in raw milk microbial communities between samples, three most universal milk associated species were identified.

Evaluation of the matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) system in the detection of mastitis pathogens from bovine milk samples

Nusrat A. Jahan et al.

Summary: MALDI-TOF is an effective chemistry analytical tool that has been widely used for microbial identification in nosocomial environments. In the dairy industry, rapid diagnostic methods like MALDI-TOF can assist in controlling and preventing mastitis, improving sanitation levels in farms and processing facilities.

Evaluation of Chromogenic Culture Media for Rapid Identification of Gram-Positive Bacteria Causing Mastitis

Breno Luis Nery Garcia et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic performance of two chromogenic culture media for rapid identification of Gram-positive bacteria causing subclinical mastitis in dairy cows. The results showed that GP and Staph chromogenic media obtained satisfactory diagnostic performance results for rapid identification of the main Gram-positive pathogens associated with SCM.

Clinical Mastitis Incidence in Dairy Cows Housed on Recycled Manure Solids Bedding: A Canadian Cohort Study

Annie Frechette et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of recycled manure solids bedding and straw bedding on the incidence of clinical mastitis in dairy cows and identify the pathogens involved. While the overall incidence of clinical mastitis did not differ significantly between the two types of bedding, Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical mastitis episodes were more frequent in farms using recycled manure solids. Producers using this bedding alternative should be aware of the increased risk of Klebsiella pneumoniae infections.
